I think Awoniyi should start the last game

Iheanacho should sit on the bench

I wonder why they don't get this. Sometimes in order to progress up the pitch, you have to go backwards a bit in order to move the defensive shape of the opposition from side to side and finally exploit a gap that will always inevitably open up to have a chance towards their box.

Why is this hard to comprehend?

TheGoodJoe:

That is impossible.

You can never keep possession for a long time without back passes. Back passes are key to retaining possession.

Iwobi is still vital for us. I enjoyed his movement and the quickness of his passes. It would be brilliant idea to have him play in the hole just before the main striker. His passes are juicy.

I think what makes Iwobi even more refreshing is his ability to slot into different positions with ease. He gives the coaching crew tactical flexibility. It will be interesting to see how he plays in the next game. It is nice we have a healthy competition for places in the team.

This will be my team against guinea Bissau

4-2-3-1

Uzoho

Ebuehi Ajayi Omeruo Zaidu

Ndidi onyeka

Iwobi Nwakali Ejuke

Iheanacho

Any of the new starters wey no impress ,Na to commot am immediately put Better person ,if ejuke like make him go Dey dribble like Mumu ,I think eguavoen have sent him a warning by not playing him yesterday despite having a good game against Egypt

Okoye needs to start. He needs to continue so that he can relax into his position.

Im currently rewatching the highlights of yesterday's game. The commentator said something really baffling that further supports safari girl position on the Nigerian Eagles ofthe 90s as the most solid team ever. Yesterday's game was the first time Nigeria would score two goal at the first half in AFCON since 92 when Yekini scored two first half goals against Kenya. I mean for all the good soccer we hype the 90s team on, they didn't score two goals easily when opponents were dummies in soccer unlike today's football that has weaker teams of the 90s catching up fast with the continental giants

Watch this Dzeko's goal in the last inter milan vs roma meeting. The spanking of Mourinho by Simeone Inzaghi. Watch how they used back passes to keep possession until they found the gap to break the defense wall.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Jb-7yP0Yw

Excellent post. Brilliant. See the amount of backpasses made in order to shift the Roma defensive structure from compact to a bit loosed in order to exploit those gaps and get the ball moving towards to the Roma 18 yard box.

Backpasses are not anti-attacking passes. They help smoothen build up plays and keep pass recycles tidy and most importantly provides a chance to exploit upfield progression through another channel/route.

What comes to my mind is Valencia back in the days when they had Parejo who is now at Villarreal. How they used backpasses to draw out their opposition's structure and exploit the gaps with a simple long ball into space left behind with a Winger stationed (and onside) ready to pounce and cause real danger.

A Valencia fan on twitter analysed it so well that I saw extra need for back passes in build up plays. There are many other instances but this Valencia own comes to mind readily.

Once again, Super Post.

Bye bye to the Oyinbo wall but then again one has to be careful in dismissing players. Who would have believed that Ekong would post consistent commanding performances in the wake of his last two Pre-afcon games for us?
Rohr did something to the mind of our players. He was an excellent scout but not - so great as a coach.

Yeah you are right, in terms of results for the super eagles, I don't see much difference between the team of the 90's and the team of our beloved Stephen Keshi in 2013/2014. They achieved thesame results. I think the only difference is that we had more quality players like Rashidi Yekini and Finidi George especially who were already known around the world by their club performances. When I meet certain people from various countries, the only thing they know about Nigeria till this day are Amokachi, Yekini, Okocha cheesy.
So yes, that team I think gained world recognition and should have achieved more.

Naah, nothing like Convolution here Citizen. The use of in/into is very deliberate.
There were passes he made while in Opposition half that were possessive only and passes he executed that were progressive.

Even the back passes he gave helped to recycle possession and help us rebuild, shifting our plays from right to left or left to right, seeking to maintain control as well as exploit gaps in the Opponent's defensive structure.

So I misunderstood you then, I thought you said he completed 16 successful passes into the opposition's half.

That would have been MOTM worthy.

I know you are a man city fan and Man City do a lot of backward passes to draw the opposition forwards and out of their defensive shape..

It is ideal for them especially when you consider how tactically and technically adept City are. They are comfortable playing the ball back to Ederson and centre halves, because they're technically strong on both feet. Can you say the same about our goalie and CBs? And besides such technique is best when you play against a highly defensive side like against Roma. Sudan were not defensive. They came out to play..

Thank you for reaching out.

I'm not exactly sure how icon4s did it last year, but I think what is required is to make an announcement as to how the awards came about.
The processes involved are thus;
Step 1: Members of the largest and most active super eagles thread on Africa largest forum, Nairaland selected a 5 members panel to oversee the organization of the award.
Step 2: The five members panel with their experience in the Nigeria football scene came up with the nomination categories and nominees for each award
Step 3: The final aware nomination list was make public to all members of the forum to cast their votes according.
Step 4: The winners of each award categories were selected.

Nigeria team in this competition has an identity, a style of play visible to any one with tactical eyes, though have not perfected it yet, but it's visible to see.

Nigeria does not play like mancity or Barcelona, Nigeria in the past two games have played like Jurgen klopp's liverpool...

Gen gen pressing with high intensity from the beginning, and fast wing play, a lot to improve on yes, but so far, Nigeria has been the most tactical and technical team in the afcon.
Good thing I saw yesterday was also a switch in play immediately nwakali came, Nigeria reduced the gengen press and played more expensively, more ball retention, slow build up because they were in the lead and that was another tactical master class.

Aribo was a beauty, and nwakali very effective when he came in...
Moses Simon played well but he should reduce the unnecessary dribbles, chukwueze too, he was wasting Aina's run , moses should also learn to cut in, draw the player in, and let zaidu run into space, release the ball, let the full backs cross.

I see what the coaches aim at.. our play is very identical to the liverpool side.

Spot on analysis..
Our style of play in the last 2 games really resembled that of Liverpool..We pressed them well and recovered balls in tight space.... Under Rohr, we don't press our opponents like that..

Also, I agree with you on Simon.. Since his crosses are not good, he should reduce them and instead cut in more...Zaidu should also try and venture forward more....

Simon Moses "Daddy" Ajala has returned to his pre-2018 world cup form. A form that saw him and his wing compatriot Victor Moses help the Eagles Soar high during 2018 world cup qualifiers. Simon missing out at the last world cup was so painful. Had he made it the story could have been different today. He was yet again fantastic yesterday.

I have always believed in his ability. For 4 good years Rohr rendered Eagles wings useless turning mesmerising players into defenders.

That baba no try at all. Painful we waited that long before he was relieved of his job.

To be honest, recent display by Omeruo, Ekong and Moses made me believe in second chances. These are players I had written off in the past. All these goes to show that the problem with the super eagles was one German expired product in the person of Rohr. I am glad the NFF came to their senses before it was late.

So true. Total write off is insane!!
We all need do this more often.

It is ridiculous to give Maduka Okoye credit for rendering Salah barren, Ekong, Sanusi and Moses Simon worked so hard to restrict Salah from having a sniff at our goal that the only thing he mustered was a tame shot that hit Maduka's foot so the credit should be given to our defenders not Maduka
It's ridiculous when you deliberately seek to demean and discredit a player..

What is more ridiculous is your attempt to inject a veneer of objectivity in your bias..

WHAT exactly do you mean by a TAME SHOT THAT HIT MADUKA'S FOOT?

Is MADUKA'S foot now an immovable goalpost?

Even if you don't like the boy..

Give him credit when it's due..

He stuck out a foot and saved a goal bound ball and this is what you reduced it to?

Loud it please. It sucks when some peeps here thinks a player that plays primarily as a no 8 for is club is a DM. The fact that he sometimes plays as a DM doesn't make him a pure DM.
Some do it to push the Nwakali's agenda.

Just like i asked mostob and he never answered, "Who was Nwakali called to back up" since he said Onyeka is a back up to Ndidi..

Nwakali may start against Guinea Bissau cos we've already qualified, but no right thinking coach anywhere in the world will pick him over Onyeka..

Quick question pls,
Has Nigeria topped the group to qualified for the quater final with 6 points in hand? Even if Nigeria lose to E. Guinea(not possible tho) and Egypt beat Sudan with a wide goal margin

Simply put, is the head to head rule still applicable in AFCON?
