Moderators, please let me know if I'm going against the rules and I'll delete this post. For now, here goes nothing:

So, I encountered loads of difficulties when I was leaving Nigeria. With the limits on Nigerian bank cards, I and the guy attending the same school (Miami University, Oxford, Ohio) could not pay for many things, even within that $50/$100 CBN-imposed limit. We spent days trying to pay for a hotel/Airbnb, GreyHound services, and whatnot. I've not been that stressed in years.

Let me not even go into how AirBnB canceled a booking when we were at the airport, an hour to getting on our flight. Why did they do that? Our booking was tagged as fraudulent. So, the booking came from Nigeria and payment from a virtual card with a US address. Also, because Airbnb refused to verify our Nigerian phone numbers for reasons known to them, we used one belonging to a friend in the UK. It was extremely complicated, and we'd tried all we knew, but that's the only option we had before we found someone who helped at the last minute. Let's just say that we ended up rooming in a hotel (read: motel) in a Nigerian-like neighborhood in New York. grin

Lol. Don't ask why the UK friend didn't just pay and do everything from his end. As I said, things were super-complicated.

The thing is that things could have been easier if someone helped facilitate everyone from one spot, with one card.

Based on this experience (and several more), I would like to help anyone who needs to pay for buses, accommodation, semester dues, and anything that they can't do from Nigeria. I've seen people who can't access US websites, people whose cards are not working, and people who are faced with using a third-party offering ridiculous over-N515 (naira) exchange rates.

I understand that everyone's being careful and that you don't want to get scammed. But I am genuinely doing this because I can imagine the kind of stress people are going through right now.

Please send a message if you would like me to help. When you reach out, I can share details about myself, and you can Google me, too, for credibility purposes.

At this point, the stress in the world (read: Nigeria) is too much to add difficulties when japa-ing.

I sincerely hope this helps someone. Again: Moderators, if this is way off, please let me know and I'll delete this.

Thank you.

Definitely not way off. To add to this, I'd still advise people coming over to get some hard currency (cash, USD) at hand, minimum $400. With this you can pay for motels with cash, buy SIM cards, pay for taxis, open an account. Wishing everyone resuming this spring a safe trip.

Leviack:
Hello everyone.
I'm currently in my finals studying Computer Science. I'm going to be applying to grad schools next year (my target is Fall 2023). Based on my research, I discovered that I have to make my profile very competitive inorder to secure fully funded scholarship for masters degree (I don't think going for doctorate degree aligns with my career goals).
I don't have any cordial relationship with my lecturers beyond the classroom aside my project supervisor.

Background Information:
Current CGPA: 4.64
Research Paper: Nil (I'm currently working on one, in addition to my final year project , I plan on publishing both if I'm able to pull it off)
Internship: 2 (3 months and 6 months respectively)
Volunteering:
- volunteer with an NGO

How can I work on having a competitive profile? I have 7 months left to finish my bachelor's degree.

You are already on the right track my brother. You wanna be super competitive? Take the GRE, TOEFL/IELTS and get ready to do your WES evaluation as soon as you graduate. Start looking out for schools now; target like 10 schools and write down their requirements, deadlines, if you need to contact a potential supervisor. Then, email all the graduate coordinators to know if they would have available funding for fall, 2023.

If you can do all this, God being with you, there is no way you won't be out of 9ja come fall, 2023. Goodluck!

And of course, set aside money for application fees, and remember early application will give you the opportunity to take the biggest chunk of the pie.

Good evening everyone. I'm a prospective student wanting to study for my undergraduate degree in the US most preferably. My question is that I have started processing admission into a Nigerian tertiary (when I wrote JAMB) institution but along the line when I finished my SSCE last year, my plans to study in the US became more feasible . Although my results weren't as superb as to what you'd see online but it ranges from A to C . Sorry for the lengthy explanation above . The question is that should I finish the processing or I should just focus fully on the US's ?
I just want my preparation to be holistic by having in mind whether or not it would affect my profile negatively or positively when I get to the Visa application stage.

Good morning all, please I have just been admitted for the Fall 2022 semester and I have the following questions to ask;
1. My international passport will expire in May 2023, I read on the US Department of State website that my passport must be valid 6 months after the completion of my studies and my program is a 1 year program. Do you know if they are strict with this rule and would you advise me to apply for another passport ASAP?

2. Flowing from the first question, I used my current passport to apply for my admission should I still use it to proceed with the application of my I20 and visa.

3. When I was in the lawschool about 4 years ago, a travel agency defrauded us under the guise of organising an excursion for law school students to the US. We were shared into two batches for the interview. The first batch went for the interview and discovered that the embassy did not have their records and did not even have information about the trip, because of this I did not attend my interview the next day. When filling my DS-160 form do I have to indicate that I have applied for a visa before and does it amount to a denial.

4. Lastly, I have 2 uncles in the US who we don't relate with ever since my dad's death. While my dad was alive, he applied for the US visa and he stated that he has brothers in the US. Flowing from this, do you think I also need to state that I have other relatives in the US when filling my DS160 form.

Thank you all in anticipation of your response

1. Just start your passport application now, like immediately. The earlier the better!!

2. You can be using it for documentation and co until you have your new passport and before the actual expiring date. Nothing spoil; no biggie!!

3.

4. The best bet is mostly to remove people we’ve in the USA in the picture during this journey. even immediate ones talkess of distance. (Key Word: MOSTLY)

I don't think I get this but, if I understand you; i think all you really need to start this UNDERGRADUATE journey in USA is solemnly your WAEC nothing concern jamb with the USA journey.

And then check out the prospective schools you want to apply to for other requirements, e.g SAT, TOEFL exams and co.

It would also be the best bet if you are Under 23 applying for Undergraduate.

Sincerely, it might be ‘hard’ to get “quick response” to this here, The best bet is to do the search YOURSELF (don’t be a lazy 9ja youth. Lol), use your search engine.

E.g SCHOOL IN USA that accepts 2.85 over 4.0 or so, just twist your search.
Or
Download the NICHE app on your app store to do that.

Hi guys,

My program starts in August. Is it safe to apply for Visa now?

Again, can I fill out and submit the DS-160 before paying for the Visa fee?

Help please.

Please, kick search your INTERVIEW DATE search now and try get a date in the bracket of 60days before your August resumption. PLEASE!

You should fill your DS160 within 1month of your Interview date. You need some info on the Ds160 to complete the visa date page, so you fill both hand-in-hand and can submit this or that before that and this.

Yeah I'm under 23, I will just clock 17 this May.
Yes I do know the requirements , WAEC, SAT and TOEFL although "I might " write the ACT as well. I've checked the requirements , surprisingly a school requested for my jss3 BECE results.
Sorry for my vagueness what I actually wanted to ask is akin to what someone posted here not too long ago about the ds160 that would him saying he's being admitted into a tertiary institution here in Nigeria be advantageous or disadvantageous to him.
I hope I'm clearer now than before.
Thanks for your response sir.

Kindly drop me your email or DM Me, lemme ‘hook you up’ with a younger one there also on undergraduate level, in your age bracket. To mentor you.

Luck!

What's your high school transcript like? What were your grades - SS1 to SS3?

Good evening everyone. I will be applying for a student visa for Summer 2022.
My questions are:
1) I had a B1/B2 that expired in 2020. Am I eligible to do dropbox for a student visa?
2) I already have an interview date to renew the B1/B2. The date is in 2023. Will that affect my dropbox for the student visa. Do I have to first cancel the B1/B2 interview date?
Thanks in advance.

Good day everyone, please I have a question and I would love to be enlightened on it. I just finished my secondary school in 2019 but I become a student of a tertiary institution this year. But before I became a student I was learning programming and IT related stuff. Please, what can you advice me to put in my DS160 when asked about my occupation . should I say I am a student whereas I just became a student this year or I should say I have been learning programming.
Because I got to know this is a vital question that is always asked by a consular from an undergraduate.
Am in anticipation for your replies.

Vo: good morning
Me : good morning

Me: how are you today
Vo: no reply

Vo: place your fingers for biometric

Vo: I can see you are going to Illinois state University for your master in Quantitative Economics

Me: no, I am going for master in applied economics with concentration in Financial Economics

Vo: okay

Vo: i see you have a GA, who will be paying for the rest

Me: my aunty and I will compliments with my little savings

Vo: what’s your thesis interest

Me: pardon,

Vo then carried a paper and wrote “thesis” then showed me

Me: okay you mean thesis, I will be working with Dr ABC who is a monetary economist at the school, we will be working on a thesis topic : *Nexus between unemployment and inflation* . We will gather data from Nigeria and USA for our analysis. We will be using co integration technique, granger causality test, Ecm etc. We will be using Philip Curve as our literature review.

Vo: where were you working before?

Me: I worked with ABC limited

Vo; a forex company?
Me: yes, we deal with foreign currencies.

Vo: it’s a family business right? (this question made me realize that she was asking me questions based on the answers I have given in this past by this time I realize i need to be consistent)

Me: yes, it is owned my uncle, I worked as an account officer there, I was responsible for their receivables and payables account, and budgeting. Before I left there I was able to recover #77m potential bad debts for the company.

Vo: where do you work now?

Me: I work as a lecturer with ABC where I am responsible for course development, teaching and grading students exams and seminar papers

Vo: what courses do you take

Me; I take micro and macro economics courses

Vo: okay. That’s good

Me: haven gained necessary skill, knowledge, experience and exposure in the course of this study, I will be returning back to my current work place to pick up a role is senior lecturer. I have a study leave approval here with me

Vo: how many siblings do you have

Me: myself, my brother and my sister including my parent.

She typed for a while and reach out to the white paper and said congratulations… who cares about the rest

I am still in shock, God is faithful, never give up on your dreams. I have been on this since 2016 but God did it in 2022. I was divinely favoured all through.. i stammered and stammered but the lady actually was calm with me. I will never be ungrateful to God.

Guys, pls don’t give up on your dreams, my application is another example to us that God will do it at the right time. DON’T GIVE UP

Congrats! In His time He makes all things beautiful.

Bro thanks for your response. By mostly do you mean I should reduce the number of relatives I state in the ds160 or I say I don't have entirely
