6. Transportation
7. Worship
8. Food
9. College/University
10. Government Tier System

Add more to the list as its not limited, I will share my experience at some point

Hello Everyone,

As stated earlier, lets talk about housing, if you are a student studying here, before you can get into the country you will have paid for your accommodation or showed proof of where to stay. It's better that in most cases, you pay your rent in time and build a rapport with your landlords as most of them have properties all over the place.

To rent a property, you will need a guarantor which can prove difficult to find unless you have families and friends you can trust, example if you refuse to pay your rent, note the guarantor is liable.

Once you are in the country for awhile and you have the right credentials to stay here, its advisable you declare yourself homeless and go to the council, you have better chances of getting a council flat or house
in some counties than London as its congested.

If you have encounter housing issues as a student, visitor or worker, share your experience

Back again

Finding the right accommodation in a new environment can be so challenging and the UK is not exempt especially for newcomers.

Here are some Sites and tips that can ease your Stress:

1. Zoopla
2. Spareroom
3. Rightmove
4. Onthemarkert
5. Mitula
6. Amberstudent
7. Gumtree
8. Facebook Marketplace

These Sites will come in handy when searching for a house. And the good thing is that you can have your house search settled before landing in the UK.

However there are some Things you should take note of before renting a house.

1. Deposit
Security deposit is usually the same as one months rent. This is to enable the Landlord/agent hold the house down for you

2. EPC Rating
A property will be given an energy-efficiency grade between A and G, with A being the best - i.e most energy-efficient - and G being the worst. Newly built homes tend to have high EPC ratings, while older homes often have lower ratings of around D or E. The average EPC rating for a home in the UK is D.

3. Furnished or Unfurnished Houses
There are a number of positives and negatives associated with furnished and unfurnished houses.

Unfurnished houses are generally cheaper to rent than furnished ones, you will obviously have the expense of furnishing it to your taste. However, there are lots of ways to furnish your home for less, and an unfurnished property will also give you the opportunity to really make the place your own.
If you want to go unfurnished but can’t afford to commit a huge amount of money to kitting the place out, why not look for a property that is furnished with white goods only? This will mean that you won’t have to invest in a washing machine, oven, or fridge freezer.

4. Bills, Bills, Bills
Some houses come all Bills inclusive. So once you pay your rent you won't be paying any other bills, while some houses come without Bills. So after paying your rent, you pay every other bill like Council tax, water, gas etc.
So you have a choice to choose whichever works for you

Some Landlords will Require you to pay 6months rent upfront or look for a UK guarantor if you'd want to pay the rent In Instalments.

Back again.

Getting jobs inside the UK or outside can be a bit stressful but its doable. Many have got jobs from Nigeria through the below websites

www.ukhired.com - suitable for UK visa sponsorship from licensed UK companies
www.jobs.nhs.uk
https://uk.indeed.com
https://uktiersponsors.co.uk - you apply for jobs here and might find a company that will sponsor from Nigeria
www.totaljobs.co.uk
www.cwjobs.co.uk

While applying for jobs, you need a good CV that picks up keywords that's relevant to the job you are applying for.

Don't leave it late, start applying as many others are doing the same and remember to keep at it as you will get rejection letters

And lastly if you are already in the UK, you will need a national insurance number as most or all employers will ask for it.

Hi thank you for this thread.

Can you talk a bit more on accommodation and transport. I got a job offer last year in London, to resume next month. It'll be my first time in London and I have no family there. I'm a bit worried about how to go about accommodation. I have b.een looking at the sites you shared but I still need guidance on areas to consider that have lower crime rates, within 30 mins to central and very affordable. Also, how long on the average does it take to get a house? If you're also aware of anyone looking for a flatmate, pls share. Thanks
