Think of how much tax payers money went into this publicity stunt? Very shameless. As long as unprecedented level of insecurity such as killings and kidnappings abound, even if they build pyramid of gold bars, it is useless. Tell the relatives of those killed in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna about rice pyramids and see if they will dance and shout sai buhari. Beside what are these pyramids for really if not campaigns? Is rice cheaper? If you say they save forex, has naira appreciated against the dollar? . This is like showing a sick and dying man the picture of a drug that is believed can heal him and then letting him die. |

backbencher:So because PDP was bad, APC has to be worse? Then this goes to show PDP as the benchmark APC rely on and they can't seem to get half as good scores. |

godliman:The propaganda pyramids was not my focus, rather the idea that rice has to be N6000 without the actual changes to the economy and without the realization that people have to be paid for the rice to come to market. |

openmine:And we can only get good power supply and good transport if we are ready to pay for it. I have a simple question......the african countries you mentioned.....what is the purchasing power of their currency?Stop moving the goalpost. I have proven to you we don't pay enough taxes. Accept it and know peace, and that's it. Don't move the goal posts. Again, we don't pay enough in tax, even in the VAT you went on about, and as such we don't have enough revenue to fund things. Your questions about African countries are not relevant to that discussion. We are reliant on oil for 70% of our budget, and 30% of us pay income tax.Oil prices are also very very unstable all the time. Tell me, why won't we take loans.? Even during the GEJ era we took loans because we were not earning enough from oil even above $100 per barrel. We are a poor resource dependent nation. Always have been. And the minute we face that fact, things will get better. Have energy experts not advised the FG to decentralize the power sector through the amendment of the constitution? All you have said is all very well, but you still missed my point....where I said....that government setting the prices for the discos means they cannot make enough of a profit since the price set is below the price of production. At the end, we can do all you said , and if the producer and distributor of power cannot make a profit, because they produce power above a cost of N80 perkwh and sell it at N49-71 per kwh, losing money, they would not be able to finance the sector. And yes, many people don't pay for power. Power theft is a cold cold reality. And people praise power thieves. And even if meters come in, people bypass them. Sad, but it happens. For more information, read this article Good morning |

luizpippo:APC has not been better , because of the harsh fact that after six years in power, they have not taken measures to get our country from being dependent on oil. That is why we still have problems economically. Nigeria does not earn enough in forex, and if your government had removed subsides on power and petrol, attracting more and more income and dollars, and also made moves towards mechanzing farming, maybe we would have been better. But like PDP, you guys want to share goodies. Economies is not goodies shared. |

smallsmall:Noice... But you did ask a very silly question in your first response to the person that said A Bag of Rice was #6,000 before the so-called Paddy Rice Revolution (not sorted Rice, which is half the Volume of Paddy Rice, when sorted, just let us be clear on that) and wondered why it is over #30,000 during this fake and White Elephant Paddy Rice Revolution. So, why isn't rice back at N2000, which is where your beloved PDP met it? Why isn't coke at the N20-30 naira a bottle , which is where your PDP met it? Our naira value falls because it is dependent on revenue from crude oil, which is not stable because prices of the same crude rise and fall, and because we spend a lot of our revenue subsidsing power and petrol, which means no investment, and thus no forex increase. Which accounts for prices rising, and real income and wages not rising. Which your party and APC have not fixed. We should be asking you and this useless , deceitful Govt, the same question![/quote]I agree with you and I also say the same thing about your party, PDP which is not different. Go and vote for people ready to take us off oil, and you would see real change. Good morning. |

backbencher:So what happens when rice was 6k in 2012? Was it subsidized or those people you listed where not making profit then? Rice is cheaper than fuel in China. In Nigeria, rice costs more per kg than fuel. Stop spreading propaganda |
| Re: Nigeria’s Iconic Rice Paddy Pyramids To Be Evacuated Tomorrow by Nobody: 6:56am On Jan 27, 2022 |
rayopt:That's the problem A lot of people are attacking me because they think I am attacking their party or their fave politician. I am attacking the fact that we rely too much on oil revenue for everything, and we need to leave oil alone to develop better. Rice is not N6000 because we rely on oil revenue to buffer the naira, and the forex we earn from oil revenue is not enough to buffer the naira. If we took measures like removing subsides, diversifying into mining, agruicututre, and improving our tax base, we would have a strong economy. But all these measures bring about 'perceived hardships'... |

backbencher:6000 to transport a bag of rice or a truck of rice? FYI a truck of rice from Kano to Abuja will collect between 70-80000. That truck will carry nothing less than 200 bags. Do the maths and you will see that it costs far less than 6000 to transport a bag of rice. Except of course you mean a truck should carry just one bag! |

So when rice was cheap, who was paying for the farmers means of transportation and blah blah blah... ![]() Bad policy is a major player of inflation caused by this yeye government. And that is because they are very confused and make unwise decisions not carefully thought through. See the mess it has caused, and you dey yarn opata. |

That's why I asked the question how were they doing it before that the general populace could buy at a lower price, and now inflation has hit the product so much that it has grown more than 300percent |

emusbyz:Has rice ever been cheap? Even when it was N6000...people were complaining about rice being an expense. Even when it cost less than N1000, people were complaining about how expensive it was. N6000 looks cheap now, it was expensive yesterday. Function of fall in value of naira....which is due to us not earning enough forex...something Buhari has not done well,. which is why his rice revolution cannot guarantee N6000 rice...that plus a lot of other reasons. |

backbencher:I challenge you to say it without blinking. Buhari made a mess of Nigerian economy. Say it and let's prove you're not a propagandist. You keep asking PDP to return rice to 2K it met the price in 1999. That's a very biased view again. Rice has always been a commodity whose rise is usually very marginal. If you calculate, for 16 years, it's price moved from 2k to 8k which is a 6k shift in price while from 2015 to 2022, 7 years it shifted from 8k to 30k. That is a whopping 22k shift. You can see who has mismanaged things worse now and promulgate your false theories to explain the failure by blaming the citizens for not paying tax and doing power theft! |

FORDCULTURE:, Well, cows cannot converse in human language, or write in english, or type in any human language, so I cannot have a cow brain, therefore you must have the brain of a philosopher! A wise one even. wen rice was 1500 per bag, was King Solomon the president as at that time??No, it was expensive then, plus if you want rice at that price 1.Tell your government to practice mechanised farming 2.Tell your government to take us off our dependency on oil. Good morning. |
| Re: Nigeria’s Iconic Rice Paddy Pyramids To Be Evacuated Tomorrow by Nobody: 9:39am On Jan 27, 2022 |
Agbegbaorogboye:Buhari made a very large mess of our economy by not taking us off oil and on the road to industrial development., and by not diversifying and by not improving our tax basis. All these weaken our naira and thus that's why N6000 cannot buy what it could buy ten, twenty and thirty years ago. Satisfied, PDP man.? APC and your party have no idea on how to run an economy, which is why I support neither of you. Good morning. Now, I am dumb! (apologies to A tale of two cities) at least as far as you are concerend. |
