Bsc or HND or ND means you are now prepared to learn MORE.
it's not a certificate of success or certificate of accomplishment.
higher education means you have the willingness to Learn ,upgrade and be a leader, create jobs and achieve your goals.

All I will say is... All tertiary degrees have their places somewhere. The main thing is to focus on upgrading yourself, gaining technical skills that make you stand out anywhere.

Yes,,am working with a private company well paid with OND & BSC, though enter with OND . Most of BSC HOLDER doesn't have anything to contribute to the company yet demanding higher pay.Bsc hold have ego deu to HND/BCS dichotomy in Nigeria which makes them less productive.

Again,company preferred OND/NCE/HND because no matter how good you are you will still bs trained in some aspects with less paid.

Most of BSC Came for IT in our company only few from one private company could vibrate.

During the Bsc program i though we are on top of the situation on till i got to the field before i realized HND holder performed better .

Most HND will want to prove to you that we are better hence make them more productive on the field.

Meanwhile,not all HND Were good nor all BSC were bad.

Learn to use CAPITAL LETTERS when stating facts. It took me almost 2 years to get a good customer service person and currently pay her 100k+ and I was advertising on hotnigerianjobs and jobberman every month.

Each advert gives us about 200 to 400 candidates and 95% are olodo....... just vibes.

Put a laptop in front of them and they can not paste even after watching a SOP video on how to do the task...... once they get to copy and paste - they start using CTRL P instead of CTRL V....... Graduates? ? ? not 1 not 2 not 10..... young graduates with iphone but no computer literacy.

It's Terrible. Many Computer Science graduates can't even operate a laptop. You see them struggling with basic computer skills. Yet they'll be crying that there's no job.

Our factory manager is a HND older in a company of more than 1200 staff and workers. Although have series of experience from other companies before joining us.

You can't compare polytechnic to university on IT experience, every OND graduate must do IT regardless of your department and while select department do IT in university

When I completed my service, I was disqualified from a banking teller and customer service job because I had bachelor's. Instead I was offered a contract marketing job which I considered dehumanizing. At a point when I obtained Msc, I applied for a job with olevel since I don't have ND and HND because they demanded for olevel certificate or ND or HND holders. Life no balance for this country.

Engineering firms don't even ask of Beng again. You just come to the venue and you are given a task to complete. You need to see bsc/Beng holders failing interviews and blaming it on the computer not working fine lol. Beng/bsc only make mouth, nothing more.

Since graduating, we've been to different field. Till date, every poly graduate I meet at the fields is amazed by my level of dexterity. None of them comes close. They learn from me and I'm always open to teaching them.

This is a hoax/facade that has prevailed over time. There is no such thing as polytechnics having more practical/practical session than universities as of the present age and dispensation. I finished from the federal university of Technology AKURE and my colleagues who were DIRECT ENTRY STUDENTS FROM POLY, did attest to the fact that we were more involved in practicals than they were.

Let’s leave the world of engineering and pure sciences.

What practicals do those that read banking and finance, sociology, linguistics, languages, public administration and it likes engage in? Or would you say those courses had specialized practical session in the poly than university settings?

The bias in the employment simply lies in the pay grade and growth rate of BSC VS OND/HND holders.

Bsc starts on level 8 in any industry and B.eng starts from level 9 while in contrast HND starts on a level 7 while OND starts on a lower grade.

The starting salary and benefits of this levels differs greatly, and at the Long run, there’s a limit to which each entry level can grow to.
Companies are simply playing an economy game to maximize profits. Start the staffs on low salary and their highest salary will just be a little above the stating salary of a BSC holder.


Do take to note that regardless of your level, companies still offer a form of training to prepare you for the job.

Keep quiet! I'm a product of both the institutions and I can tell you that those practicals work in polytechnic is nonsense. Please don't compare the two. University is better by far

Where I did my IT at the refinery, without bragging a colleague of mine AND myself from FUTO and FUTA superseded our counterparts in dexterity, technical do how and theoretical knowledge through out the IT period.

It's actually the opposite. Because HND has little or no room for promotion and will likely take a lesser pay than B.sc

Another factor is that the main skill needed for most Jobs are not taught in our schools both In Universities and polytechnics. So most corporation go for already made employees or employ teachable HND graduant.

That's my little hypothesis. Cos the way banks are hunting HND holders made me say this. But those employed said they are not given room for promotion unlike the B.sc holders.

Because salary scales are based on certificates. OND/HND graduates are cheaper to employ and their productivities are at par with B.Sc holders. People with B.Sc have not shown any remarkable skills that could differentiate them from OND/HND holders. Do we blame "sorting"?
