I've never seen that things move freely on land except inside pot.

They revere it in Orogun. It is a traditional practice by the people.

They are not just your close friends.
They are your gods.
The Orogun people worship monitor lizards and dogs.
You probably don't know that history and you are probably not proud of the gods your people worship?

The employee said: 'The monitor lizard stayed on the shelf for an hour.

The rescue team arrived and chased it away.

But they didn't catch it, it just ran away into the bushes.

'I've never seen a monitor lizard that big in my life, so it was a surprise for one to come in the shop.'

Customer Narumpa Tangsin, who filmed the creature, said: 'They're dangerous animals, especially when they're angry, so I stayed back and recorded it on my phone.

Shoppers got more than they bargained for when a six-foot monitor lizard raided a supermarket and clambered over shelves in search of food.

The giant reptile sparked panic after it emerged from a nearby canal and ran into the 7-Eleven store in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.

Staff and customers hid behind the counter as the beast rampaged through the store and tossed food and drink cartons to the ground.

A shop assistant said the lizard was in the store for an hour before police and reptile handlers arrived.

I never knew monitor lizards grew this big thanks to our naija brothers who always kill them prematurely.

They have bigger ones in Orogun Delta State. It’s considered a taboo if you even try to hit one, not to talk of killing it.

I've never seen monitor lizard that big before. I'm glad it wasn't killed unlike in my country that they can kill just anything!

More specifically, that's a Komodo dragon.

They are only found in Indonesia.

What your village has is not the Monitor Lizard. It's the Iguana. The Orogun peoples of Delta State have spiritual reverence for the Iguana.

This made me remember the few weeks I spent in orogun, these things were just taking strolls unbothered, sunbathing in the borrow pits in the community, I could never get close though, I just watched from afar

On the other hand, what we have in my community are large pythons, the kind you see in NatGeo wild and the other discovery channels

is not the same with this. Iguana is far smaller, with sharp spikes on its spines from head to tail

that's my village, orogun. I aslo went to enugu ukwu, for a visit, Its after nkpor, I saw pythons living freely among humans. One thing I understand is that in a place where it's forbidden to harm any animal, it mixes freely with humans, and sees them as close friends, and not threats
