No matter how we try to sugarcoat it, I think in my opinion, the Super Eagles failed in Cameroon. We are praising Eguavoen because he made us believe again, but then, when the hard test came, he fumbled.

To me, that is not a yardstick to reward him with the coaching job. But who am I to go against the mob?

TheGoodJoe:

That is precisely the tactical difference I am talking about. Immobile is the lead striker but does a lot of work far from goal. Same with Firminho too. Even Benzema with CR7 in Real Madrid did lots of work far from goal. That is exactly my point and how the modern-day strikers are not strictly judged by goals but by what they bring to the table tactically.
Does Firmino play closer to goal? Each time you are caught in your statements you turn to philosophy .

Can you not explain yourself? Why do you people like asking questions? Make your point. You did not catch anything. No one is trying to catch anyone.

The point is simple. There is more required from strikers than just goals. It is an old topic. That is why Guardiola can leave a proven scorer like Aguero on the bench and opt to play a midfielder.

I gave Firmino as an example, who is a striker from Liverpool but does not have high goal scoring numbers.

Now you are asking me does he play close to goal? Make your point.

Which one did I ask you when I explained Ciro Immobile?

How come no one made mention of aribo’s monstrous performance yesterday against Ross county which he got an assist?

Still waiting for nwakali’s first assist and goal for the season cheesy

That is because you want to hinge your opinion on the result of the game which does not paint a true picture of what really happened. Eguavoen did more than make us believe. He made us play better, improved the players, and even promoted the unity of the team. He gave us an identity.

So saying he failed is not the true picture.

Finito.

Bro, he didn't meet the expectations. So he failed.

Yes I agree the time was short for him, but considering our past glories/results and what he did, he failed. Result is the keyword... Not beautiful football that is too predictable.

If the girl is being truthful and there's enough evidence. It will take fasting and prayers for him not to stay more than a year in jail. After that, he will be shipped to the east to continue his career in Chinese.

So if he spends more than a year in jail and he returns he will be banned from paying at the epl right ?

There is still Spain Germany France and co where greenwood can kick start his career ,so I don’t know why you suggested Chinese for such a good player

You are just contradicting yourself. With the cards on the table, Eguavoen played a nice hand. There is little you can do about fate. You do your best and with time, if you do not give up, you win. All he can do is his best and have the boys firing on all cylinders.

If Eguavoen continues, he needs to make a hard choice. I know Alloy Agu used to be a teammate, and number one goalkeeping choice at one time with the Super Eagles, however, goalkeepers make or break teams.

Sometimes, I wonder what would have been of Mancini at Manchester City, if he did not have Joe Hart performing at that level.

Eguavoen needs to know we need a goalkeeper coach that will work with the team scouts to find three high-grade keepers. They must not come from clubs in Europe or America. They could come from the local leagues. We should scout academies in Europe and locally.

Donnarumma was 16 years old when he made his debut for AC Milan. So the spread should be wide.

Eguavoen needs to insist on this, three to five names. If indigenous, they can start camping locally earlier than when the squad arrives but we need to treat the goalkeeping role seriously if we are to achieve something from this generation of footballers.
It's a soft underbelly of our team that we have left unattended for too long. And it has cost us two Afcons

I don’t think greenwood has ruined his career despite what just happened .

The career is gone

He faces domestic violence and sexual assault charges, he could face prison time and when he is out, he will be in his mid-20's at best, football would have left him behind and he will be lucky to land a gig with a League 2 team with such a criminal record.

So much for being the darling of England

I don't think it's that simple... These Europeans try to be wary of things like this due to societal backlash...

Do you know that Giggs time is different from today?

That someone faced minimal backlash for something done more than 5 years ago, does not mean another person will not face worse today. Social media has greatly influenced how systems work, a social media Giggs did not have to deal with during his time.

Also, Giggs had already carved his career at the time.

Also, Giggs is a white man

Y'all gonna understand the difference between a white man and a negro in the court of public opinion with this case. His victim is even a BLONDE WHITE WOMAN, the most fragile of women. When a black man inflicts violence on a white woman, at no time in history has the black man come out with minimal scathing.

Who is Greenwood?

I can't agree less. Especially at the knockout stages, a goal keeper can make so much difference. Look at the Burkinabe goalie, yesterday. He helped Burkina Faso secure that lead.

But the only shot directed at Okoye all tournament, he couldn't save

My fear from the start was in that goal keeping department. That goal changed the entire complexity of the game. The 4:4 draw against Sierra Leone in Benin and the goal we conceded against Cape Verde away really exposed Okoye's weaknesses but I guess the goal keeper trainers were blinded.

Francis Uzoho would more likely have saved that shot.
Only shot ooo. Fiam it was inside the net. I couldn't believe my eyes.

After our match against Sudan, he was interviewed. He said he was happy that we got a clean sheet but that he wished he had been tested.

Okay na. On the day he was tested, Oga let us down. All I know is that regardless of your tactics, a bad GK can let you down

We brag about having one of the best squads in africa but we can't find a good goalie. Naija na just hype abeg. Over hype infact. We have better GKs out there but our useless GK coach Alloy Agu refuses to call them up...Adebayo Adeleye who plays for Hapoel Jerusalem is there but has not been given a chance.

Agu is doing us a disservice.. Imagine Noble who is a bench warmer with Enyimba and has been reported to be a jittery goalie makes the team for better goalkeepers in the league, like Olorunleke Ojo (Enyimba) or Adewale Adeyinka (Akwa Utd) who would have been far better choices from the domestic league.
5 years of jittery goalkeepers.

Out of the 3, Uzoho is the only confident goalkeeper who does not panic but I still don't trust him to be our number 1.

you can't just make a conclusion about his career being gone on till a court convict him and you never can tell what conviction and sentencing he will get wink Anthony Joshua got a community service for something tagged to be a 15 year's in prison sentence due to involvement in drug's and that never affected his career so wait till greenwood get his sentence cool

I love this team prolly more than you do. But the hard truth is that we failed. Eguavoen failed. The players failed. The keeper failed woefully. Why? The coach got our last game tactics wrong. We lost to one of the poorest team of the competition. Dammn it.

I keep on saying it. There was nothing impressive about the Tunisian side.

It was an embarrassing defeat. It really is a pathetic loss. To lose to the Tunisians is pitiful.

Some will say that it was a defensive masterstroke, but it really wasn't. Even with 10 men, the Tunisian defence was suspect. And a better side would have equalised. The truth is this Nigerian side is extremely inefficient and it all boils down to the tactics of the coach. Needing 12 chances to score 1 goal.

It was not our "fate" to lose anything. It was not our destiny to be beaten by a weak team. A team that was so weak they barely come forward to attack. We lost because a coach and his players felt too confident and played like there was nothing at stake. No strategy, no tactics, just go into the field and be yourself, enjoy your game, play as you play in your club. That's not a strategy. That's a freewill to doom.

Bring your strategy and tell your players how to make it materialize. Simple. Not just playing gengen pressing with no end results.

Mind you. This is not a dig at Eguavoen. I have my respect for him, and he's a superb coach. But he failed his one simple "tough" test.
