yes with skimmer the pin is needed. But there are ways around it. I once accidentally discovered a loophole while transacting a PayPal deposit using my card and I did not use pin. I was shocked the transaction went through

Even, if assuming it is the security man or someone else that later retrieved the ATM card, how did they get her PIN? Agreed, they will be able to use it to make purchases without the PIN, but not withdrawals unless they have the PIN.

My point is, is it possible that an insider in the bank; who can easily look up the retrieved card in the system and access/change her PIN is involved?

and who said they withdrew the money? All she got was a debit alert. Yes on international sites you dont need pin and otp at least from some payments I had done before

D security men and whoever is in charge of the atm are complicit in dis new system of fraud. Whoever recovered the card from the machine has a lot of questions to answer. I always tell ppl, if U have an atm card, den there is need for U to have d banks mobile app. From my app I deactivate my cards easily weneva I can't find it and in d case of first bank I can chose to deactivate specific services like POS and Online payments the card.

PayPal is an example. We dont know how she was debited, it could even be a skimmer. With a false keypad to get her pin and with online upload to enable remote operation. The important thing is, it is preventable if card users are properly educated on dos and don'ts in using their cards

Nigerian Banking system is useless

Her card was swapped and she inserted the wrong ATM.Once you entered the wrong pin thrice the machine swallow the the card and the culprit who swapped her card has the pin to empty her account.

dont forget most skimmers come with the card slot too. The information on this news is sketchy it should be easy for the police to get the culprit if they know what they are doing. If it is a skimmer that was used, they can do data forensics and get info that would lead them to the culprit and if it is an online payment, they can get IP information used through the payment portal

go and download the app. It is easy. I deactivate and reactivate my card anytime and anyhow using my zenith bank app. Most apps comes with the option
