But nairaland is boldly written ontop of the thread

You can't sue them
What you can do is to issue a dmca take down notice

Whether you can sue them or not is debatable. A article on a nairaland thread meets the statutory requirements for copyright in Nigeria. Is the DMCA domesticated in Nigeria yet?

So why are you not explaining that to the people yarning dust on this thread? All they needed to do was reference Nairaland because that is where they saw the story.

Whatever you post on the open web is available for everyone to distribute. All they need to do is reference the source.

No, they don't need to ask for permission because you have already given them permission by posting it on the open web.

When someone uploads your stuff without permission online, you'll have to first give them a take down notice and If they refuse to take it down, then, you can sue the platform

Well, I am not sure this is a fixed rule. It's nevertheless an option.

In cases where the someone else has massively profited from your work, I wouldn't advise you to do this...

That's not true. Certain kinds of comments (artistic, intellectual, etc.) are protected by copyright, irrespective of whether or not it's posted online. He has a right to lay claims to the article/post and ensure they delete it.

Delete it for what? The only thing they needed to do was reference Nairaland. That they did.

Anyone can quote you. You can't ask me to unquote you. So long as I didn't claim your work as mine, where it's posted is irrelevant.

No. Referencing nairaland doesn't give them the right to copy an article published on nairaland. The author(s) can bring an action against them and enforce the deletion of the copied publication.

That wasn't a quote. That was a copy and paste publication.

If you copy the contents of another author and publish it on your own platform, it's plagiarism (irrespective of whether or not you attribute the work to the author). This is why photocopying a published book is wrong (even when you didn't replace the author's name with yours).

The ideal thing is to take permission and own the required documents for the copyright. This is applicable to audio, art works, etc.
