Comedian, Mr Macaroni has joined many Nigerians to plead with the federal government to come to terms with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to end the nationwide strike.

On Monday, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke declared a nationwide strike following the Federal Government’s inability to implement demands that cut across funding and other welfare packages for lecturers.

The ASUU National President had warned that the strike would be “comprehensive and total.”

But Nigerian students took to social media to lament government’s alleged nonchalance towards education in public universities.

Macaroni, while reacting to the development on his Twitter handle begged the federal government to meet the demands of ASUU.

He said Nigerian students deserve better than strikes disrupting their academic year.

His tweet read: “I plead with ASUU and the Nigerian Government to come to terms that will see to it that students return to school as soon as possible. Abeg!

“Nigerian Students also deserve better.”

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS had threatened to protest the decision of their teachers to embark on strike, stressing that students have been traumatized for too long.

Asefon Sunday had in a statement condemned the manner the parties in dispute handled the negotiation, urging them to return to the negotiation table.

To end ASUU perennial strikes the following measures must be undertaken:
1. No lecturer should have any ward outside Nigerian Institutions for first degrees, once they have any they should as a matter resign.
2. No politician in Nigeria should have any ward in overseas countries, at least for first degrees.

Once the above two conditions are guaranteed, sanity will return to the Ivory Towers. There will be no further strikes and threats of strikes. FG and ASUU will always strike a balance.

My advice to students facing ASUU strike; go and learn a skill forget university education during the strike. If I had known then(during various ASUU strike) I would have put more effort in tech, I finished 2019 but due to covid and nasu couldn't go for nysc, i used that year to learn web dev. Last week I turned down an offer from a tech company, willing to pay very well for my service even b4 finishing nysc. I'm confident the future is bright not cause of my bsc but my SKILL

This country na just cruise.. Bad things is now like a norm. Any day something bad doesn't happen in this country, it will be weird. Once you're gaining admission, deep in you, you'd know you're spending additional two years on top whatever time you're supposed to spend in school.. Except of course it's a private school

Abi o. My degree is not what I'm using to enjoy my life. Your interactions in the university environment is only meant to groom you and make you wiser.
90% of the time, the certificate itself is useless. I'm doing higher study and I'm glad that ASUU is on strike sef. More time to make more money.
