Wrong Indian qualified for the world cup as far back as 1950 but voluntarily withdrew from participating in that edition and have failed to qualify for the finals ever since then.

They have played in2 countless afc tournaments from 1950 till date which is a recognised fifa tournament and even made some appearances at the soccer event of the Olympics.

The notion that fifa banned Indian from playing football at any given time is false.

You check the full history of Indian football here
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_India_national_football_team

The 99-1 story is simply an urban legend as Indian has never faced nigeria in any senior men's football match ever.
so who was the unfortunate fellow that postulated the story

How old do you think the fable of Nigeria-India match is?

Thunder Balogun Died in 1972
Okparji died in 1989

Only an indomie generation would be this proud.

Where were you in 1972?

What year did the tournament took place and which other countries where on the same group with Nigeria and India. Not to mention the players who represented Nigeria on the tournament. Abeg guy no dey believe story for small pikin
The story originated in the late 60s and early 70s as a fable that all children took seriously. It was compounded with the fact that Nigerians believed in "Indian Jaz" (all our magicians then claimed they got there powers from India).

The death of "Thunder Balogun" in 1972 was weaved into the story as he was the one that scored the only goal with his left leg, killing the goalkeeper in the process (There were several variants of the same fable).

There were several fables at that time including that of the notorious Armed robber Oyenusi who was so good with driving that he drove from Lagos to Ibadan in reverse gear while the police were pursuing him- Of course, he escaped).
Young people hardly ask logical questions from their parents probably because of fear hence the fable went on for decades.

My pops believed this shit till he died, my mom and most of my siblings believe the cap story too, some will say the ball get engulfed in fire or turn into a boulder, others will say the ball duplictes and confuse our players, the most ridiculous lie was the ball turning to lions, tigers or snakes and chasing our players around the pitch.Even as a kid the story sounded so fake to me and that was the age I believed that orange seeds that was swallowed grew in the stomach with it's branches growing out through the ears.
Thank God for the information age. My son at 7 will quiz and drill you with questions till the stupidity of the story become apparent

I rather remain an indomie kid than to be an ignorant blockhead.

It's a pity people like you are still in existence. Believing everything that comes there way without carrying out any research on it.

I'm ashamed you actually believe such a game really took place. 99 - 1 indeed

What I expected from you was to tell us the exact date the match between Nigeria and India took place. So we can correlate the date of thunder balogun death and see if truly he died on the field.

You are there shouting indomie generation whereas you know nothing.

Do you offspring a favour by debunking this folktale whenever it comes up. Be wise

It seems you don't know the meaning of a fable!

Google is your friend my dear. Humility will save you lots of embarrassment!

You are neither here or there.. from your previous questions you sounded like you believe the whole story. Asking me where was I in 1972.

What has that got to do with the issue on ground? I only put the date of there demise and cause of death from Wikipedia to show that they didn't die in the course of playing the so called India 99 - 1 story
