Id like to hug you. One of my parents is African American and it’s true that there is so much ignorance between the groups. So many times I have to act as a diplomat between friends and relatives. When new relatives come to America, they come with the idea that African Americans are lazy, and hate Africans which is not true at all. One of my cousins came here for schooling last year and before he left Nigeria he was warned to stay far away from African Americans but the guy was so shocked when I took him to an African American church and they gave him almost everything he needed for his dorm room and collected money to give him. The Nigerians here fro his mother’s family still refuse to pick his calls.It took time but now he sees that stereotype can be very wrong.

I'd love to hug you too my dear sis. Thanks 4 taking the time. You're right, so much ignorance and silly notions on both sides. And it's like, there's no way you can really correct it. Some of the most hard working Americans I know are African Americans. And places like Nigeria has as many lazy people as anywhere else. Only that they don't travel out. But on the other hand most Africans don't look down on African Americans at all - that's another stereotype. Also, some movies falsify things: example - Africans have no notion what "cotton picker" means as was said in that movie - TOTALLY made up. Also "Akata" (which has since fallen out of use) was never a perjorative. It was just like saying someone was, say, a Yankee. But that particular movie did a lot of damage by totally twisting things - total lies and people bought them as true!
