With the current development of blind cells and power mix that can be fix. Many appliances can be converted to DC that would tap it's current directly from panel during the day while other mix would take over at night

The problem with solar has always been that there is no "buffer" source of energy.

When appliances directly take energy from the panels, what happens when the sun suddenly dies down in the afternoon or it suddenly gets cloudy? Do they go off or what?

All the countries championing solar power don't use it as a main source of energy. They only use it to make up or complement what they already have.

The bigger your energy demands the more unsustainable solar energy becomes.

It's great for small to medium scale use. But it's still very limited.

Guy you are deceiving the public.

There is kidnapping and Ritual killings in Southwest. Yet Lagos to Ibadan Railway construction was achieved.

Stop acting as if insecurity is peculiar to Southeast.

Bokoharam is very active in Borno, Katsina, Kaduna etc. Yet government projects are ongoing in those areas.

But you keep ranting on this platform as if Southeast is the worst insecure part of Nigeria.

Please grow up.

Has any group ever commanded the entire SW to stay indoors?

You are even doing more harm to Southeast than the so called IPoB.

You have been telling business men and women to relocate from Southeast and move to Lagos.

You have been fabricating falsehood on how your friend from America refused to travel to Southeast but brought his family members to Lagos and spend his money on Lagos economy.

The pure truth is that you and your cohorts are demarketing Southeast and scaring away investors from traveling to Southeast.

Your agenda is to cripple Southeast business. Only a fool will not see that.

If power issue can be solved, then atleast 50% of Nigerian would have been solved, because it would lead to industrialisation and invariably more job opportunities would be created, a less criminal environment would be birthed, cost of production would drop and goods and services would be more affordable, major cities would become decongested. Etc.

If they can make this not about politics and also do Good roads across the country, the rest things would fall in place.

They should also make bill for state police.

Enugu will do with coal.

You can add others.

You are right but it depends on how the power is generated. The problem still is, the natural resources are been controlled by the federal government. Anambra has enough gas but FG will determine how much they will get it as fuel to generate the electricity...meaning the masses will still pay for the huge cost. The solution to Nigeria as a country is let every state manage her resources, trust me ONE NIGERIA will start making sense to everybody.

The cost of bringing gas out of the ground for use is not materially different if Anambra state controlled it compared to FG!! There is no huge cost being levied on you by any FG.

Just be ready to pay for electricity at the economically viable price, whoever is bringing it out of the ground. And not have this backward mentality that because it belongs to your state, it should be or will be cheap!!

Until that "research" pays off we have to settle for the more reliable and feasible option.

Solar energy is just not not feasible on a very large scale. You would always have to store that energy some where. The storage has always been the problem.

With Gas and Hydro power, you can either ramp up or ramp down to meet demand and they can continue working all year long.

Batteries my dear!! There are batteries in the MW capacity that can bridge the gap. There are some countries that are doing up to 50% of their electricity from Solar/Wind.

Batteries? Do you know the cost and maintenance involved in such MW capacity Batteries?

Batteries can only give out what they store. What happens when demand exceeds supply? Given that the bulk of energy use happens to occur in the evenings, when you no longer have sunlight and have to rely on stored energy.

What happens when Batteries don't get enough charge because the day was cloudy or it rained all day?

My dear, what happens then?

Don't let those countries fool you. They all have gas, hydro, nuclear or coal fired power plants that make up their base electricity supply.

Solar power, at this present stage, can only be used as a complementary source of power for any medium to large scale application. Solar can't soley power industries or big communities.

However, they do work very well in small scale/isolated applications. Even at that, the cost or maintaining and changing batteries is a big factor.

Did anybody suggest that Solar and Wind should suddenly become 100% of Nigeria's electricity? The same way it complements in other countries is the same way it will complement here. My point was that if some countries are doing 30%+ from solar/wind, then its definitely a viable option for us too, particularly solar.

Remember that all states are still connected to the national grid. So if Nasarawa requires 100MW to power the state, it can sign an agreement with a company to build and provide 50MW solar plant that will be dedicated to Nasarawa state, with say 10MW battery capacity. So during the day, solar complements what they are getting from the National grid and during the night battery kicks in to complement what's coming from National grid. The battery can also serve as a sort of spinning reserve, to keep the system stable.

In fact the electricity consumption in some states is so low that a single large scale solar plant can solve all of their day time requirements.

Besides, some states have good capacity for wind and solar and you may find that wind blows better at night.

Read my comment carefully, I said electricity mix is the solution to lasting and affordable electricity. Since majority of people that needs electricity falls within the small to medium scale, that makes solar power a more efficient especially during the day where major work activities takes place.

Hydro, gas turban and wind can be added to provide the buffer at night.
For heavy duty operation, diesel and petrol would complement gas and hydro power.

Oh, you don't know power generated through turbine and had also suffer setback while transmitting and distributing? There are temperature at which step Down transformers could operate, the incessant power failure you experience in your community is partly due to this, yet the world over do not term it unreliable.

The point is that to achieve uninterrupted electricity, the state or fed govt must harness all power generation where they have economic advantage. So, solar is very much needed in this modern world

To understand my argument you need to first grasp how power generation works.

What do you mean by power generated through turbine?

And what has faulty, old or overloaded transformers have to do with power generation?

It's not impossible, it's just grossly expensive given the other cheaper and more viable alternatives.

We are a third world country, we don't have money to throw around on experimental green energy that costs more in the long run to operate and maintain and are not as efficient.

It's all about cost, efficiency and feasibility.
