This is a problem because most times they think I faking the fact that I failed to remember.

I’ll be nineteen in a few months but I’m seriously worried for myself. I’m the kind of person who buys about three PEN every single day because I always forget where I dropped the last ones.

Don’t get me wrong, I do well in school, I currently have a 4.8 CGPA. The things I’m taught in school always seem to stick in my head, but every other thing doesn’t.

I have lost a lot of valuable friends because of this. Yes! It’s that bad.

There was a time I had a huge quarrel with a toxic friend, we ended up breaking up our friendship. But when the next semester began, I started wondering why she wasn’t talking to me. I tried approaching her but she ignored me.

I didn’t understand her behavior until the day I was flipping through my diary where I read that I had quarreled with her.

Please, I need help! My mum complains a lot about my behavior! Do I have a medical condition?

This problem is so bad that I had to buy a bracelet that connects my phone to my hand because I have lost count of how many times my phone slipped out of my hands.
If not for the sound that my phone makes when it hits the floor, I never would have known that it slipped off my hands.

I can’t write all of the experiences I’ve had, but please I need help! I’m tired of carrying a book Jotter/planner around, and I’m tired of setting an alarm for something small like “TAKE THE CUP BACK TO THE KITCHEN".

I have the same problem, I suspect it's attention deficit disorder though I've not been diagnosed yet. I also have issues reading or watching most things for long. I also have fleeting interests, today I'm interested in this, tomorrow I'm interested in something else completely. Check the book - Is It You, Me, Or Adult ADD? Might help you understand what the problem is

It's a medical condition.

Probably, u inherited it from someone in our family. Check ur uncles, aunty, grandma/grandpa, etc. You'd notice exactly what I said. Someone has it.

That forgetfulness is what causes d HIGH intelligence.

Read about albeit Einstein.
He spent 12months in d womb and has a brain disorder. In d end, he became super-intelligent.

Read about Stephen hawking too.
Crippled, speechless with brain disorder but super intelligent.

the same goes for some albinos.
Skin disorder but intelligent.


I once had a female friend with a similar case.
She kept on skipping classes at primary school cos of her intelligence and she always took d first position despite d classes she jumped.

Imagine taking someone from jss1, then putting her in Jss3 yet she takes d 1st position there.

Next term, instead of ss1, u take her to ss2 yet she still takes d 1st position there.

She graduated from secondary school at around 13 years (instead of d usual 16 - 18)
As of her year, 3 in the university d bank refused to open an account for her cos she was still below 18years.
She had to go to d bank with her mum before something was arranged for her.


Why am I saying all these?

She was smart.
We were close friends.
We had long midnight calls and discussed our goals together.
She preached to me about Jesus Christ.

One day, I called her on phone and guess what?

She can't remember who I am.
I explained and described all I could but she couldn't recall.
We met, yet no idea.

At some point, she was even thinking that I am a stranger that's trying to scam her.


It was her junior sis that told me to forget everything or start toasting her afresh.
That forgetting me is normal cos of her mental wahala and she has as well forgotten most of her close female friends.

. I was in js1 when I took junior waec, again in ss1 I try waec and got it at the first sitting. I never had a good second in my set though I was very poor in English. I never like reading but mathematics-related programs. I was self-centred never like to be with people but I am kind-hearted. I forgot things easily but not my academics. Sometimes people think I am very proud but I am not. Lately, I am beginning to see this as a problem. I mean who wants to marry a Yoruba woman and he is not sociable with all outdoor activities that they are known for. I feel like asking my fiancee if I am sick.

Is it as bad as you making it to be?
I don't think so. What i think is, you don't give a shiit about so many things and it's has affected your psych.

Why not go check yourself out.
If you are not doing drugs - Do you masturbate a lot ? 2/3 times a day -if Yes, It can cause you to loose short term memory.
If not then try some exercises
- like jotting stuff down or writing on your note on your phone.

I'm just like you. I had 4.46 cgpa. But I'm very forgetful. Everyone wondered why Im like that. Ordinarily you won't think I'm brilliant cos I'll forget everything in an instance. But when exam comes I remember all perfectly. I learnt to live with it and my friends know me for that.... As long as it dosent hinder my productivity I'm good

Its not a Crime to need help but you dont need to lie about it.

The process of memory retention is the same, for all things, whether School work, going to the kitchen or memorising your date of birth,

You are right, she is probably not sleeping enough thereby causing an accumulation of almyloid plaques in the brain. Thank God she has discovered early enough but she is quite young for her brain to have accumulated too much of the plaques that she is beginning to forget things.

Anyway, since she has not gotten to the tipping point, remedies are available but she needs to work hard following the solutions.

Just as you have said diets is the first solution, she needs food that contains nutrients and should cut out excessively on carbs but not totally. The other one is exercises, she needs to get to do enough exercises daily. The third one which is the elephant in the room is getting enough sleep. Sleeping at least 8 hours per day helps the cells in the brain not to die off quickly. Lastly, she should learn new things everyday, the brain needs exercises as well. One can learn new things by going to new places and meeting new people.

The other option which I usually don't recommend to people is medication and I don't know if the drugs are available in Nigeria for now but the FDA in the USA have approved it sometime ago.


I knew all the information up their through research and a TED Talk by Dr. Lisa Genova on a Podcast. So Op please Google the Dr's name and the Topic Dementia and see whether you will get the detailed information. I will check if I can still find that Podcast.

You are going through a challenge, and u are refusing to accept that u a going through it. So ur state of is not stable.

Go to a mental health clinic for proper diagnosis. We are very similar, I do not forget as much as you though. Download Evernote and write everything you're sure you will forget. Let your notes guide your days and also set reminders based on them. It helps a lot.

Yes, this sounds like me too. My creative faculty is on another level, just give me materials to work with and you will be amazed at what I can produce. It is like the more a person is able to unlock the creativity in their brain, this memory stuff starts coming up. This our brain is no joke.
