I have been hearing similar stories like yours, since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and the America/EU imposed Crippling Sanctions on Russia.
One would think that Russia would not survive the next One year and here they are, Robust economy and with a lots of Foreign Reserve for America and E.U Leaders to STEAL, in 2022.

FYI, Russia still sees Ukraine as a "Family Brother" who has lost his senses and just needs some SLAPS, to come back to his senses, not to be killed permanently. Putin said as much too.
