The aim of russia is not to demilitarize Ukraine.

The aims of russia are
1. A regime change and installation of their puppet government in Ukraine
2. Using Ukraine as a military buffer zone to Russia. In other words, Russia can put their military base permanently in Ukraine

Ukraine does not have anything militarily that can intimidate Russia: without the military supplies from the West, Ukraine could not have lasted the first 24Hours of Russian invasion
