*CONFESSION OF A SUSPECT-*
"I do what we call wire-wire, wire-wire is also called SIM transaction, so sim transaction is local wire".
"Any alert SIM I come across, with any bank, I can work on it and do transaction on it, I can withdraw, recharge and get loan on it".

Interrogator - "Explain to me now, how you do it?"

Suspect - "If I'm given an alert SIM, I'll press *425*100#, this will show the bank the owner of the SIM is using"
"If the Bank is Access Bank, then I'll dial *901*00#, it will show the account balance of the person, if I want to reset the PIN, it will ask for the account number of the person and Date of birth".

Interrogator - "How will you know the account number and Date of birth of the person?"

Suspect - "The account number, some do save it on their contacts and some don't, so if I see the account number on the contact, I will use the person's BVN to bring out all their details".

Interrogator - "How will you get someone's details through their BVN?"

Suspect - "I'll dial *565*0#, so when all the details are revealed, I'll now register with the Bank of the person involved and I can carry out my transfers".

Interrogator - "So you will change the PIN of the person right?"

Suspect - "Yes I'll change the person's PIN, I'll input account number and Date of birth, then it will prompt me to create PIN, then that's the PIN I'll be using to do transfer".

Interrogator - "What if there's no money in the account?"

Suspect - "If it's salary account, when there's no money in the account, I can use it to collect loan".

Interrogator - "What's the maximum amount of loan you can borrow?"

Suspect - "There are some that are 15,000, some 20,000 and others 5,000 Naira loans"

Interrogator - "Can you operate with any other SIM apart from SIM used in receiving Bank alerts?"

Suspect - "No, it's only SIM used in receiving alerts" "No matter how hard the code may be I'll break it, if it's used to receive alerts"... "I've done some demonstration here too".

Interrogator - "So if I give you my SIM used in receiving bank alerts now, you can do anything with it?"

Suspect - "Yes, I can do any transaction with it".

Interrogator - "Where will you transfer the money to?"

Suspect - "I do open no trace account" "I'll transfer it to that account" "We call it AZA"

Interrogator - "How do you open such accounts and how can you transfer into such accounts?"

Suspect - "I can use anyone's BVN to create another account that will be "no trace account" "I can transfer into another person account and it's the person that will be sought after, not me".

My question is, what is a 'no trace account' and why is it that easy to create such account from your phone.
The banks need to routinely change their security and confidential account openings procedures.

Most of it is a bluff. The sim card on many phones is not the default contact saving destination. If it is, an account number is too long to be stored on a sim so a simple strong password on the lock-screen is enough. Of course lock-screens can be bypassed using different methods not modifying recoveries, boot-loaders, kernels, this implies mainly on archaic phones. modern devices has a data kill switch for these.

I see him succeeding 1/10

Misplaced my small phone in public transport last year, I got to figure this out after few hours and funny enough the phone beeped while it was still with the thief but then the thief cut it off and I didn’t bother to check if it was my phone or not. Anyways, when I figured my phone was gone first thing I did was to check my balance on my other phone using bank app...well your guess is right, 20k gone! I had to call my bank yo block my account and also called my network provider to block my SIM card. Till today the SIM card is still blocked.

We must be very careful, people are wicked and desperate. It was an old man that took my phone.
Put a sim password on the sim you use to receive alert. You need your puk to do that.
If your phone is stolen, you sim will require your password before being used.

lol technology Dey advance day by day bro. The only solution to this is SIM lock and face unlock like the one on iPhone ( that’s if the phone is lost)

You took that away from my keyboard. Even the daftest of bank staff knows a thing or two about this modus operandi, the difference is some of them choose not to go that route.

With this open secret, many bank customers would rush in to get their email updated as the preferred alert option and to be on a safe side, most of the general populace need to be aware of attaching PIN to their SIM cards, in the effect that they misplace it, they can be rest assured that their funds is intact pending when they'd report to the authority concerned.

Always set a PIN on your SIM card

that is it... SIM lock. No matter which phone they transfer the SIM to it will request for the 4 digit PIN

Wow! shocked.

So I am just thinking;

What I want to know is ,is it preferable to have the sim alert in a smart phone or touch light even with a sim lock.

I noticed some people prefer to have their alert sims on a touch light phone, but I was thinking ,in a the case of misplacement, a touch light phone can easily be accessed which will not even get up to the point of them needing to remove the sim only to find out it has a sim Lock as compared to a smart phone where they may likely need to flash the phone to gain access to the phone and subsequently need a pin to access the sim.

You're right but it go beyond all this jargons they type here.

Remember there's always insider, it's high time the banks take good care of their staff and stop dismissing them like university student without having a proper watch on them.
