With this I support Russia and other reasonable countries that support the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk from Ukraine. I support Russia's decision THAT Ukraine must respect the referendum of Crimea in 2014 where 96% of the people of Crimea voted to be reunited with Russia.

How do you know what Putin expected and what he did not expect? He is a strategist and must have known that America and NATO will use their control of the media to get the whole world to support Ukraine, which they did. Ukraine alone did not resist, the had the world at their back fighting RUssia from all angles, including sending mercenary snipers and satellite intelligence from all angles.

Like I said in one comment. If the majority of Ukraine distrust Russia or hate them like the media say, Ukraine won't even need any foreign help to stand Russia at this scale. She wouldn't force any citizens to stay and fight.

Finally, it is quite interesting that you acknowledge that Ukrainians have a lot in common with Russians both genetically and otherwise. I believe you don't know where the bad blood came in. So as an assignment, go and check the ethnicity of the President and the Prime Minister of Ukraine. It will help you understand better.

I see a part of your argument derives from whataboutism on USA in Libya & Iraq. Not Much to say about that, Whataboutism is a well documented fallacy.

A President is a Citizen. All these US backed or Russian backed President is a subjective viewpoint.

Joining or not joining NATO is not really as important as Crimea and Donbas issues at the moment. NATO in quotes operates an open door policy, but they have conditions for joining which France and Germany have made it clear Ukraine doesn't meet and, therefore, opposed thier membership. That is why it came as a shock when Russia invaded Ukraine while talks were still ongoing. It was termed peacekeeping but we all know it was anything but peacekeeping. I've always maintained that NATO membership was just an excuse.

Stop shifting goal post all we were seeing was the numbers of Russian soldiers killed to make it look like Ukraine was winning. Even till now the western media is still pushing that narrative. But they forget to report how Russia has been lenient with civilians and do not intend to carpet bomb the city.You guys really think Ukraine has a chance if Russia decide to use the USA route. In a week Russia already destroyed majority of their military infrastructures, control air space and water. Only fools were believing or cheering up Ukraine while they were dying, cities destroyed and millions fled. Why can't the foolish president follow this approach in the first place ? Why put millions of people through hardship?

A wise man negotiate from the position of strength not weakness and this invasion would only make them negotiate from the position of weakness particularly since the USA/NATO didn't want to intervene.
