The Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia had on Friday ordered the Attorney General of the Federation to delete Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022.

84(12): “No political appointee at any level shall be voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election”.

The House of Representatives has decided to appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, asking the Attorney General of the Federation to delete section 84(12) from the electoral act amendment bill recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Members of the House expressed disappointment and displeasure with the judgement, which they said was aimed at ursurping the powers of lawmaking conferred on them by the 1999 Constitution as amended.

They also resolved to petition the National Judicial Council(NJC) about the conduct of the judge who gave judgement against the the National Assembly even when they were not necessary parties to the suit.

They also asked the Attorney General of the Federation not to tamper with the law as made by the National Assembly pending the determination of all appeal related to it.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamiala said the Executive or an appointee of the Executive cannot by the provision of the Constitution delete even a punctuation mark on any law as that would amount to usurping the powers expressly conferred on the National Assembly.

He said it was curious the judgement was given when the Plaintiff did not show any injury that he will suffer if the section is not deleted, adding that the plaintiff is neither a political appointee nor a public servant.

“We do not know who will succeed Buhari, but we know those who will not”. - APC chieftain and Buhari ally.

Tinubu is one of those who will not.

So whether rule of law prevails or rule of force, it changes nada.

Gbajabiamila will rest when he is tired of touting around for Tinubu at NASS.

Dalu!

The fact they're appealing means they don't know their job.

How can legislators make laws and the judiciary nullifies it?

Where then is the place of separation of powers?

If any stakeholder have problems with any act of Parliament the best solution is lobby and move motion for amendments.

Confused people. Were they not elected to make the laws? Where is the separation of power in this nation?

Thought the duty of the court is to interpret the law and make it effective

https://twitter.com/i/status/1506220604717944832 Canadian author and political activist caused quite a stir as he accused the Canadian government and NATO of sponsoring the war in Ukraine despite not wanting to defend the country.

Yves Engler, interrupted Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly’s speech at the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations on Tuesday, March 22, asking the West to stop using Ukraine as a proxy against Russia, alleging that the actions of the west will lead to World War III.

As Melanie Joly was speaking , Engler stood up and started saying “Shame on you,why didn’t you push Kiev to sign the Minsk Accord? You’re going to push us to WWIII,No to war! No to NATO!

Canada, like other Western nations, has been supplying a lot of military equipment including rocket launchers and grenades to Ukraine.

“Stop using Ukraine as a proxy against Russia,” Engler said and left before security could take him into custody.

He then shared the video of the moment on his official Twitter account.

Nice move by the Reps. I think one man wants to tweak the law because of his selfish ambition. Meanwhile, the NJC should deal with the judge, and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee should deal with the lawyer or lawyers that filed the action.

It's all about politics. The only way APC will retain power is to hand it to South South candidate. This would make them win votes from SS/SE and even SW (they wouldn't have any practical option). The only moral place to cede the ticket is SE but this is politics, the party is not strong there. SW has no moral right to ask for presidency now but they have positioned themselves well for the ticket. The truth is that no single region can win presidency. Voting blocks in Nigeria remains North/SE-SS/SW. Any of the two combined would defeat the third.
The SW media wing is actually pushing Igbos to demand for presidency from PDP and Igbos shouldn't fall for this. Reason is this, apart from the bad blood caused by IPOB, APC is the incumbent party. Why would APC Kaduna leave APC candidate to vote for PDP SE candidate. A SW presidency means a longer wait for SE (16years).

The political move SE can make now is to join forces with Northern PDP and win 2023. Build bridges and position themselves for 2031. Be ready to get jabs on nairaland from SW that Igbos are only good for vice presidency or are Fulani slaves. Don't be moved by these. That's the only solution and Yorubas played it in 2015. A Yoruba candidate wouldn't have stood a chance against any SS/SE candidate of PDP in 2015 as the incumbent party would have deployed their machinery to crush them. They wouldn't also stand a chance if PDP is incumbent party in 2031 with an Igbo presidential candidate.

This is the truth an Igbo with his emotional part wouldn't want to hear or a cunny Yoruba wouldn't want people to know.
