For Ukraine becoming a member of NATO is a no no considering their long historic ties with Russia.

First, Ukraine is not located in the Baltic region. It doesn't share a shoreline with the Baltic sea.
The countries in the Baltic region are Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Germany. Of all these 9 countries, 6 of them (Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany) are all NATO members. So if Nato wants to neutralize Russia's naval power in the Baltic sea, they will do it with ease without needing ukraine.

When you say 2/3rd of Ukrainians speak Russia, it doesn't mean anything. When Ukraine gained indepence, many ethnic Ukrainians left Russia and came to Ukraine. ethnic Ukrainians makes up more than three-fourths of the population of Ukraine. The Russians in Ukraine are in the minority and they constitute less than one-fifth of the entire Ukraine population. So, Ukraine is dominated by ethnic Ukrainians. Period!

Actually, Russia tried to do join body by forming the Warsaw pact to counter NATO. NATO is still existing but Warsaw pact no longer exist. To add salt to injury, of all the countries that were in Warsaw pact (Albania, Bulgaria, East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Soviet Union), all of them (except Russia) are now in NATO. If e easy to form join body, Warsaw pact would have still be existing till date and countries that made up the former USSR wouldn't be aligning with the USA.
