Selfish Wing Plays Must Stop

Our wing forwards should learn to be part of the build up plays and cut the individualistic display. They waste ball with it. If a full backs like Sanusi or Aina overlaps, they must be utilized.

One way is by passing the ball. How can opposing players zone press a wing and Simon and Chukwueze choose to run at them with the ball. Worse part you have an overlapping full back with you to help cut the level of numerical dominance. Over and over again, they chose to leave their full back stranded.

What makes this worse is that when a full back overlaps and we lose ball, we are exposed at the back.

I believe even Addo told the boys to ignore the full backs when they make overlapping runs because the wingers won't pass to them.

The coaching crew needs to cut that out immediately.
This one kept repeating itself. Many happened in front of the coach. I was like is he blind. In one, Zaidu made the move to Simon. Overlapped behind him. The channel to Zaidu was closed down. Nacho opened up in the hole to get a pass from Simon, which if it had happened Zaidu will be on a freeway. No Simon didn't make that pass. He hugged the ball and tried to wriggle his way. Utter rubbish. Chukwueze was doing the same. Simple one touch football. Our wingers simply didn't play with the team. You can take on a player when one is in front of you, but trying to dribble 2-3 players over and over again is madness. Just recycle the ball. Simple.

Is this how we want to play at the world cup?

Playing like an average team with no tactics. Anywhere belle face kinda football.

Eguavoen is a mistake and he shouldn't be allowed near that team again.

The set pieces from both sides was comical for world cup hopefuls.
Very amateurish particularly from Ghana.

A flashback occurred when we kept conceding those corners to Ghana.
Korea/Japan 2002, Argentina made us pay from one their corners, same in South Africa 2010. African teams really need to improve.

2026 will be an expanded world cup with more teams from Africa but we must also show we aren't going to the mundial to make up the numbers.

I will play Amoo in place Chukwueze in next game ahead of Dennis. Don't ask me why.

Honestly with the way we are crying over a 0-0 result in a packed and hostile stadium I kind of feel the Ghanaians have been right. We do think we are all that and a bag of plantain chips.

This is absolutely not the time for negativity. Unless of course u don't want the Super Eagles to qualify then have at it.

I am. disappointed.

The 0 - 0 scoreline feels like a loss to me and it's advantage Ghana on Tuesday in Abuja.

Observations / random thoughts

1. Eguavoen as a coach is below par.

2. Eguavoen's formation, tactical set up and reading of matches is poor.

3. Eguaveon doesn't know his best players and the roles best suited for them

4. Despite the good performance of Leon Balogun today, he's lost some inches of pace, has poor balance, is leggy and uncomfortable with the ball at his feet.

Seriously, he shouldn't be starting our games. Semi Ajayi, Chidozie Awaziem & Olisah Ndah (both not in the squad) are better ball playing defenders.

5. Innocent Bonke is a carpenter. He may play regularly for Lorient but in no planet is he a good defensive midfielder.

6. Iheanacho brings only clinical finishing to the table but he'll only score if he gets the chance. His clinicality is not enough for midfield solidity, work rate, mobility upfront & channel runnings to be sacrificed in our game. Aribo should be playing the advanced midfield/support striker role behind Osimhen.

7. Chukwueze is not it. He's too predictable, is easily shoved off the ball, misplaces passes and losses possession a lot. Furthermore, playing him puts a huge burden on his wing back. Dennis or Lookman should be starting ahead of him.

8. Frank Onyeka is a baller. He and Etebo's inclusion brought some steel & solidity, better ball rotation and retention to the team. He also appears to be comfortable with ball at feet and driving forward.

He won the free kick taken by Iheanacho and also sold that dummy that took out two ghanaian players towards the end of the game. For me, Frank has cemented a starting shirt with his performance.
I guess I watched another game. Balogun was the reason why the defence didn't collapse. Ekong was error prone in that game. Yes he might have lost some pace but his positioning and ability to disposess ball off attackers is still up there. Watch the game again bro, you ill see that Ekong was the weak link.

Osimhen should grow up and stop looking for cheap favors from the ref. He was just falling all over the place instead of playing football.

Until Etebo and Frank entered the fray. He disappeared. I had prayed that Aribo be left and Nacho yanked off. We already have Dennis and Lookman with Osihmen. The trio are capable of getting goals. The gaffer should keep the same backline. Frank in cm and Etebo sitting deep. with Aribo in AM. Keep Lookman. Dennis, Osihmen in the front 3. I guess the GH passing through the middle will come to zilt.

And Simon that missed a chance for his assist is what?

It was the way the ball whizzed through traffic for me. Awesome Pass by Iheanacho, definitely worth him being on the pitch.

People can't insult the midfield and also bash Iheanacho. If we could barely get the ball what was he supposed to do?

the problem is we dont have a pressing attack. I saw zero presence from our two forwards yesterday

I agree with most but I disagree on Iheanacho. Among the forwards, Chukwueze, Osimhen, Simon and Iheanacho, Iheanacho was the only one working with the midfield.

He was the only one dropping deep to help build play, keep possession and give us numerical strength in the midfield. I value these over most attacking qualities because it ties with the basic principle of keeping the ball.

Also, Iheanacho is the only forward we have that can keep his head up to see a team mate in space and he also had the passing ability.

What affected Iheanacho yesterday was our poor to non existent possessive play but from that angle he did a good job.

Nacho had a mediocre game last night. Truth is he has had many more stinkers than good games recently..

Nacho shouldn't start the return leg, Eguavoen should play Aribo behind Osimhen and save us the sluggish nonsense we endured from kelechi.

Laughs in stanzas. Was there even more than 2 crosses the whole game?? Even the one Simon had opportunity with Osihmen, Aribo, Chuks rushing into the penalty, he decided to cut back for Insigne move, the way Banku boys bashed him off the ball, I nearly fall comot for seat with laughter.

I agree with you on Onyeka showing cream quality but the problem has always been that he is box to box and goes too advance.

Same thing goes with Aribo. So it is always a matter of dropping one for the other.

Secondly, we still need a defensive cover. Aribo, Onyeka and Etebo are not the kind of midfielders that will sit and act as a pivot for build up plays.

However, I will pick Onyeka over Aribo from what I saw yesterday.

Good observation.

I noticed Etebo was dropping deep to collect the ball from the back 4. Etebo played as the DM yesterday while Onyeka played as CDM/Box-to-Box midfielder.

I believe it's better if they swap playing positions for Onyeka to play DM while Etebo plays box-to-box in the return leg simply because Onyeka is better defensively.

If Onyeka is given strict instructions to sit and provide cover for the back four, he will.

Yes, when Etebo and Frank came in. He added more body in the MF. Ekong started covering for him. AE did a good tactical switch, the only snag was pulling out Aribo and leaving Nacho. SE would have pressured Ghana till they commit.
