I am glad you made a good analysis. There are for sure more opportunities in the WEST, but one would face fierce competitions to have those opportunities not to even talk of a juicy one like the one you mentioned here. Besides, immigrants are seen as second citizens abroad, so racism and cultural challenges are those things to battle with. I would only advise that people relocate from their home country if nothing good is happening for them!

Many thanks for all your contributions. I am more inclined to stay back in Nigeria and I will. Starting life all over again in a new country is a turn off for me. For my profession I'll need to spend a year or two writing exams in any new country to get certified in that country before I will be able to get similar job and roles unless I want to switch careers. My job in Nigeria is secured. The Company is over 50 years old and even though it started as a one man business it's no longer so. After becoming a director within 3 to 5 years you become a shareholder. Shares are allotted to you as part of your employment benefits and the shares are often enough to make you part of the decision makers. I feel I have better prospects staying here and building my career than relocating to a new country and starting all over again.

false, i was working in a big 4 accounting firm, if i had gone to the industry and not travelled I would have gotten more than he earns. I have ex colleagues who left audit to shell and other big oil companies, today they are in Canada, one of the oil company started paying salary once every two months. My guy just japa. Canada migration was designed to take only the highly skilled workers with 3 or more years experience. You cant even get into Canada as an hustler. Na usa and Europe dem dey hustle

A lot of people talking here don't even understand the situation. They think people running from Nigeria are poor or struggling.

I met someone in Houston that left Shell in Nigeria to relocate about 4 or 5 years ago.

My last salary in Nigeria was over 10m per annum (which was/is small in my opinion) in 2018 and I still relocated in 2019. I was an accountant in Nigeria and I got a job in a mid-size public accounting firm the same month I got my work authorization. At exactly 2 years, I moved to a big4 firm. The same big4 in Nigeria refused to employ me because of age or class of degree.

I am currently paying cash for a master's program that will end this year. My program cost over $27,000 but I am allowed to pay per semester based on the number of credits I register for. No way I would have been able to afford $27,000 for school fees if I remained in Nigeria. The value of my retirement savings account in one year alone is more than my over 10 years pension fund account in Nigeria. One of the companies I worked for still owes me over 1 million Naira pension deductions not remitted to my PFA. So many other things that have happened that I won't want to disclose here so as not to give away my identity.

I will always advise anyone. LEAVE if you have the opportunity to relocate legally. Staying in Nigeria was a waste of time for me. If I had come earlier.....I can imagine what I would have achieved.

I tell you. The security issue for me is the most bothersome. I could live with lack of power (solar dey), bad roads (at most buy a Hilux lol) , but security, you'll need a van full of soldiers cos even 3 police escorts won't do.
Money without peace of mind is just not it.

Imagine. 700k now and expected 2.2 million in 2030, a whole 8 years from now. Can you imagine. Maybe a $ will be N1,000 by then.

Even with the fact that she'll is a big oil company and they pay millions which most Nigerians don't earn people still leave .The last time I was traveling, I met a guy from Nigeria who shuttles between Us and Nigetia to see his family. It's a two way thing. Some move with their families and some stay back and send their families abroad while visiting them every two or three months when their off if they feel their job is too lucrative to leave. But then , nothing is guaranteed in Nigeria especially with the volatile security situation now

No mind them.People will always immigrate for different reasons. Even if Nigeria were the best country on earth, people will still relocate. British people move to Canada. Canadians move to the US.Somd Americans even move to France. We are now talking about Nigeria where almost absolutely nothing is working at the moment. You can't point to a single thing that they have gotten right

Children should be raised by their father and mother under the same roof after all it takes a man and a woman to make a baby. This silly thing that I see Nigerians do whereby they get married but then live apart from their spouses for extended periods of time is not how a marriage should operate. It opens room for cheating and adultery. If you can't live under the same roof with your wife and kids as a husband, STAY SINGLE!

This is why I have refused to relocate my family. I made up my mind that I would not relocate but my wife has been persistent that we should move or at worst, move them and stay back in Nigeria and be visiting.

I can't imagine not raising my kids myself; not being around through their formative stages; not guiding and inculcating in them the necessary values and keys to success. Nobody can do that better than me.

The concern of cheating or not is the least of my worries. It's ensuring that my kids are nurtured under the right environment, with both parents playing their part. I may still move but that would be later in life.

For now, I am enjoying the country. My major worry staying in Nigeria is the insecurity. But for other Nigeria's problems, find ways of insulating yourself from other problems if you have the money.

If you are currently working in a company that pays you N700,000 monthly and you are on the right path to becoming a director in that company by 2030 (8 years from now), will you resign and relocate to Canada? Note the following:

1. Directors earn not less than N2,200,000.00 monthly and salaries are reviewed upwards in the company annually.

2. You and the company both contribute to a pension fund with a reputable pension fund administrator monthly and your pension fund account balance in just 6 years of working with the company is over 8 million naira.

3. The company caters for the health needs of you, your spouse and 5 children at no cost to you under HMO.

4. You enjoy performance bonuses annually.

5. Your next promotion is to Assistant General Manager where you will begin to earn about US$6,000 per annum as foreign trips allowances.

6. You are married with 5 children.

7. You are 35 years old.

I was thinking exactly that too.

WHY?

That said, those quoting great incomes they make in Canada or US or whatever are not doing a full service. You also need to quote your essential running cost of life; not just the income coming in.

I am not saying it is right or wrong to relocate. I am just saying paint a full picture.

I know, most likely, Canada will still make more sense than Nigeria considering the OP's current earnings and future potential earnings.

The rate at which people are killed in Nigeria, every family may eventually have a taste of such an ugly trait

Five Children at 35 years? Did you marry at 25 or you adopted some?

Given your stated realities, I'd say 700K is small money to get by per month, especially, if you're in any of the big cities in Nigeria.

You're earning an average $1300/£930 pcm and $15,000/£11,500 per annum.

Let me ask; what's your monthly/annual savings after expenses?

About relocating or not, you need to do some deep personal research and pray for God's leading to know what to do.

We don't know all the factors or realities about your life to aid better advise.

Best wishes.

He knows and sees what you ain't seeing, hence, he made such decision that you can't comprehend.

Nigeria is too fragile! It's always not about money, which one would eventually make in excess abroad.

This is it!

One of my uncles who was/is doing continually laments and regrets why he didn't relocate. He got offers from Multinationals but he turned them down. Not relocating is his biggest regret.

He now encourages young people to leave, irrespective of their Nigerian earnings.
