I don’t trust any organization located in a residential area. Forgive me, my experience (not directly) with Lekki offices have been nothing short of disappointing.

They don’t pay well.

They are experts at big tags; Team Lead on a salary of 80k. No be to lead the team astray?

No defined or clear career growth.

No laid down organizational hierarchy. So a lot of asslicking, bullying and whistleblowing goes on there.

As for the HR, that is a typical unprofessional and uncompassionate Nigerian HR.

There are sooo many offices in Lekki these days.

And I don't think the experiences that have been recounted to you have anything to do with the location of the organizations.

Many Nigerian organizations are fraught with issues.

And career pathing is dependent on the structure of the organisation.
It can be an organization located in Lekki, or VI, or Ikoyi, or Ilupeju, or Ikeja.

The primary consideration should always be;
First, that it's an actual organization.

...And then the other equally important things would follow like; culture (non-toxic, collaborative) engagement (meaningful work) business stability (ability to pay salaries).

Career growth, good. But people are at various stages of their career... and no one is static. A person can get necessary experience from a small organization that affords them that, and use it as a launching pad for higher opportunities in future.

I once had the same experience. On getting there, I was told that there's nothing like interview in that location. I was very surprised because I was sent there by the person that linked to the job.

So I had to call the person and he told me to tip those security guards there.
When I gave them the money, I was shocked to see the same people who told me that there's no interview are the ones directing me to the actual floor which the interview is been held.

Haaaaaa! I can't even explain what I felt cry

considering the competition in d labour market.. it will be difficult for you to get a job based on merit or qualification considering d course u studied and grade..micro biology is useless in this country..I dont know where they fit in..even hospitals dont accept them...pls try to venture into self employment or learn a trade..then the job will come when u least expected..as it is now u will have to have strong connection cuz the odds are against u..I am not discouraging u just my mind..if u are in benin..contact me..I will teach u a trade after 1 year and 6 months u will be making atleast 500k every month..but u have to put ur ego aside..salary work na scam.no agreement fee..feeding and accommodation on me...

If the comparison is to those in VI and Ikoyi, then there may be a probable explanation.

Of the three locations, Lekki would incur less operating cost. And a company would be mindful of its operating cost because its turnover isn't too high.
This also means it's a small/growing organisation, so the career ladder internally is very short.

But a person's career need not start and end in one organization.

And the scenario the OP stated really has nothing to do with a career path.
He went to a gym centre for an interview. He didn't tell us if it was a gym facility he applied to. If it was a gym facility he applied to, whether or not he applied to a gym located in VI, Ikoyi or Lekki, there'll be no defined career for him there, if we're still on the matter of career.

Lol, yours de learn. My first time of coming to lagos was for a job interview. I was so broke that I didn't want to come, but friends encouraged me to go. I traveled from Abuja to Lagos shocked

On getting to Lagos at night, the person I was to stay with a night before the interview disappointed me cry

I almost lost all my valuables to Tinubu urchinious agberos in Lagos.
Somehow around few minutes to 12 midnight, help came from where I least expected. So I managed to sleep in a friend's house.
To cut the long story short, I appeared at the interview venue and met 14 others for a position of 2persons. shocked

. Omo, na dia I know say na one chance I de. Unfortunately, I was second to the last that came, though I wasn't late as per the time of the interview. The interview began according to how we came. Before it could reach my turn the interviewers were already tired. These lazy people barely heard me. They didn't even allow me to talk.
Omo, after the shit they called interview, I felt like dieing. Imagine the risk, the stress, and the resources wasted. I wish I have some kin power, I for course them severe pains. undecided
