The general Itsekiri populace are of the Yoruba stock directly from Ijebu and from some other parts of Yorùbáland.

The Itsekiri royal house, however, claims its descent is from the Benin royal house.

The Itsekiri royal house makes it clear, however, that the Benin royal house (from which it came) is of IFẹ origin/roots.

So any how you look at it, this king is correct about his assertion that Itsekiri is part of the Yoruba stock.
exactly... this present Olu ancestors are from Benin.

Whatever the king say is correct? Even a baby-king, unfortunate to be king due to premature demise of his father? A political king courting 'straws' abroad as if in preparation to causing trouble at home? Hmm. What can Warri show for being an oil-producing city?

Stop arguing what you don't know. I'm from ondo state and we were part of Benin kingdom. Being a part of Benin kingdom does not mean we are Edo. Oyo kingdom consists of other tribes that are not Yoruba.

I'm also from Ondo state, you and who are part of Benin kingdom?

As long as you Accept that Benin was under Ile Ife

The Problem is when Benin try to Claim that they didn't descend from Ile Ife because it is a cornerstone of Akoko Akure and all Parts of Ekiti that they are descended from Ile Ife

Owo Kingdom has never been defeated and they also came from Ile ife
“According to Owo traditions, a large colony of Benin traders sprang up in Owo and a large colony of Owo traders sprang up in Benin. From Owo, Benin trade spread rapidly into Ekiti and Akoko. Akure, to the north of Owo, became a major center of Benin trade, with a large colony of Benin traders. …

Wherever there was a sizeable colony of Benin traders, they had the habit of organizing themselves into a community with its own “chiefs,” topped by a head chief with the title of Olotu-Ado or Olotu Ekiran. They also developed the practice of sending their tributes to the Oba of Benin through their Olotu Ado. Usually, these head chiefs wanted to be seen and treated as representatives of the Oba of Benin. Their unmet expectations in this regard came to play some part in causing conflicts with Benin. According to Akure traditions, the first coming of Benin troops to Akure, during the reign of Oba Ewuare of Benin in about the middle of the fifteenth century, was caused by a major confrontation between the Akure government and the leadership of the Benin trading community over a dispute between some Akure and Benin traders in the Akure marketplace.”

“On the whole, the movements of Benin’s men in arms appear to have been intrinsically actions in support of trade and traders. Benin was a great trading state whose rulers paid very close attention to its citizens’ trading activities. The Oba of Benin himself was the patron of some of the most important trading associations that organized trade to various territories outside of Benin. It is in the context of the activities and traditions of these trading associations that we must understand most statements in Benin claiming many distant lands as places in which the Oba of Benin had influence.”

Good, reading all, they were only trading partners or so, like how Ẹgba and Ijebu also traded in Salts and some clothes

They were NEVER a colony under Benin.
Tho Owo or Akure might be ruled by some Benin prince, buh i hate how he generalized it

Akure is different from Ondo state.

Akure might have been ruled by a Benin prince buh not Ondo state entirely.

In Ondo state, Akoko lands, Ondo kingdom, Ìlájẹ, ikale, Ilara mokin up to Igbara Oke have never had a Benin prince whatsoever, however i didn't rule out the options of trading with them.

Or you think Ondo state na one town

There is no place in Owo or Akure ruled by a any Benin prince.

Those are all stories made up by the Binis themselves just to to compensate for their low self-esteem.

Those made up stories are actually unfounded and are not corroborated by the royal traditions of Owo or of Akure.

Oba of Benin's was a great Merchant Prince because of his good International Connections with the Portuguese

Benin weren't really a great Military Power or even great Administrators

You will notice that almost all the group's that migrated out of Benin left Benin in anger because of the tyranny of the Oba's and their royal court
From the Urhobos to the Ishans to the Ikweres to the Ogbas all of them were fleeing the Oba and his Courts Tyranny

There is a general belief among Oyo People who's Alaafin also descended from Oranmiyan like the Oba of Benin that the Oba's of Benin were never benevolent Rulers and so overbearing ,they didn't allow their Subjects to flourish to become founders and rulers of their own Towns with their own Private Armies like was common among the Oyos and other Yorubas and that is why there was a dearth of Vibrant City States in the Benin Kingdom

Tao11 to be honest with you even here on Nairaland there are People who think the Whole World revolves around the Oba of Benin and his Court

Long ago, the king of badagry confirmed it in an interview that, the Egun people and yoruba are of the same ancestry. He noted that centuries past, their forebears once migrated from their current location to Ghana before they return back to Badagry. According to him, a more revealing historical account, that shed more light on the question of Ewe people in today Ghana and Togo, he said, that they are one with their yoruba kinsmen in Nigeria.

Okoros and Oyel people without history should keep shut. You lots are trying hard to rewrite our history, to drive wedge between us. And as for the benin, Your OBA is a typical yoruba man.

nisai:
I have heard some Eguns claimed they are Yoruba. I don't know if it's true.

The Eguns are descended from the Branch of the Yorubas called the Popos

The Ewe of Togo and Ghana are descended from the Ketu branch of the Yorubas and the Olu Ketu was a Son of Oduduwa, Ketu Kingdom is in Benin Republic but a small Portion of it (Imesi) is in Ogun State

The Olu Popo was also one of the Sons of Oduduwa the Eguns also have some Fon (Dahomey) ancestry too due to intermarriage

The King of Tado in South Eastern Togo was called the Olu Popo by his Yoruba brethren and was the founder and ruler of the Popo Kingdom after he left Ile Ife
the Popo and Eguns are also called the Ajah by Yorubas

Both the Popos and the Ewe met and reunited in the Popo Kingdom in Southern Togo

Grand Popo is in Benin Republic but the Popo Kingdom extended into Togo and the Ewe people are also found in Ghana

The Popos started Speaking the Akan Gun language after they were defeated by the king of Dahomey as the Dahomey were of Akan Stock

After the Oyo reconquered Dahomey during the time of Basorun Gaa many Eguns became bilingual speaking Yoruba as well

The Yorubas named Porto Novo in Benin Republic Ajase
which Translates Victory over Ajah after Aare Oona Kakanfo Oyabi and the Oyo Army defeated the King of Dahomey's Army there
