Finally, the torturous journey of getting a German National Visa for about 2 years ends today!

To God be the Glory!

When the journey seems longer than usual it is not always an indication that you have a problem.

Let me give you a highlight of my journey on this family reunion visa process.

I applied for a family reunion visa on the 28th July, 2020.

Received a mail for interview on the 8th July, 2021.

Had my interview on the 5th of August, 2021.

Lawyer called on the 4th September, 2021.

Lawyer visited on the 9th September, 2021. The lawyer tried to manipulate me to pay him 200k as bribe but my spouse called his bluff because I have complete documents. No issues.

We waited for the foreign office to contact my spouse but they didn't. So, we chose to contact them. He wrote them a mail on the 2nd of November, 2021 informing them of our application.

They responded on the 4th of November, 2021 and requested him to submit some documents.

He submitted these documents on the 12th of November, 2021.

Since then, we waited and waited and waited!

After the endless wait we started calling them at the foreign office and sending mails. No response to mails and no picking of calls.

Around January, 2022 they started picking calls. They informed us that the woman in charge of our file was sick and she just resumed. So we should expect a response in two weeks.

After 3 weeks, we called again and we learnt that the woman's health had gone very bad and she had gone off work. And our file would be given to someone else to handle.

We waited and called again. No definite answer. We are working on it nooni!

Then, 1st of March, 2022 the foreign office sent my spouse a mail. They apologised profusely for delaying our application because of shortage of staff and covid.
They informed us that the positive response had been sent to the embassy in Nigeria and we should contact them henceforth.

We called the Nigerian embassy again and they told us to send a mail and attach the response we got from Germany to it. This was done on 10th of March, 2022.

On the 15th March, 2022. Approval Mail sent to me.

Dropped documents in person at the consulate on the 16th of March, 2022.

Documents received back today, 31st March, 2022 with my Visa stamped on my passport. Dem grant their mama 6 months! grin grin grin

Note: My A1 expired on the 24th of January, 2022. I prayed they shouldn't request another one and it was answered.

Germany here we come o!

I'm open to questions.

God's speed to others that are still on the waiting list.
Congratulations and safe trip. This bribe thing used to hit a nerve any time
I see that lawyer requested for it. Pffft

Please, how many years was your A1 zertifikat?
And what does your 6 months visa mean? I thought it's a reunion visa.

The idiot lawyer that investigated me was smart. He said we can't discuss it on phone. He told me to put away my phone when we wanted to talk about it. He said if I agree to pay, I should say good morning with text message. It means we are good to go. If I won't pay, I should type morning. But it is good if I pay because my records can't grant me the visa. My spouse was livid! He said I should cut off the lawyer as soon as he was done with me. And I did that exactly. He was friendly for few days after he left but when he realised that I'm not responding, he stayed on his lane. He's scared of the embassy definitely. They must know.

My A1 cert is 14 months old now. It expired in January after 12 months. I honestly don't know what the 6 months visa means. It used to be 3 months. In fact I know of people that got 2 months. That's how it is being given. It will be extended on getting to Germany.

Congratulations to you. God is too faithful.

Please patterning the constant request for bribe from Lawyers assigned to do the verification. It will go a long way to ameliorate and stop that exorbitant extortation from fellow Nigerians in future, if those who have successfully gotten their Visas could write a complain to the embassy on their website.

Hi everyone, I am currently filling the family reunion application form with my wife. Her appointment is in 2 weeks.
Does anyone know what should be filled for the following questions on the form:
1. Intended duration of stay in Germany?
2. Do you have health insurance that covers the federal republic of Germany?

We'll appreciate your feedback, thanks.

Goodluck to everyone still waiting for appointment date.
Re: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by stellina22: 10:17pm On Apr 01, 2022
Congrats on ur wife’s application mail….

1. Not sure there’s a uniformed answer to That question…. So I advice u just put in any date from this month or next 2 months until …..
example …( June 2022 - family reunion)
Except u have a time frame you want her to stay with u and back …

2. If your insurance isn’t family insurance and she doesn’t have any Insurrance in Germany, then u can put “No”

My 2 cent ….. and Goodluck to her

Family visas collected yesterday to the glory of God. I will sign off of this thread but before I do, I will share everything I have learned from this process starting from the time we applied to the time my family got their visas. It will not be the usual interview transcripts, I believe there's enough of that already. When I have some time I will type it out and post it here.

Thank you to everyone who supported and answered our questions through this time. God bless. Cheers to a new dispensation

Will the health insurance certificate issued here be accepted as the travel insurance that will be requested when she finally gets her visa approval mail or will I have to do another travel insurance in Nigeria ?

Hello House,
Please has anyone tried applying for US tourist visa from Germany? I am a second semester masters student in Germany and I would like to visit my aunt in the US by the end of the year?
What do you guys advice? What are the chances as a third country national applicant in Germany?
Thank you!

Yes you can apply, provided you can convince the VO that you will return to Deutschland and complete your studies.

Additionally, you need to demonstrate proof of funds to cover your trip. If your aunt is covering your expenses, you will need invitation letter stating that she will bankroll your expenses during your visit.

During my studies, I got a US visa for 1 year.
Note: I had a good paying student job at the time, and it searved as a tie to return.

Just my experience, nothing more. grin

Hello all, good morning.
Please I wanted to ask a question from those that have received their stamped passport. After you receive the approval email to submit your passport, will you receive another email to come and pick up your passport and documents or the embassy will just send it directly to you with DHL? Thank you.

Hi everyone,

My wife is currently filling the family reunion application form. There is a place where they asked her for references in Germany (Question 10).

Is it okay if this is left blank, because she does not have any reference in Germany?

Thank you all, and all the best in your applications as well.

It’s not okay to be left blank!!! She has you as her husband, and you are in the Germany….

So you can be her reference in Germany !!!!

Well it should be accepted, because it’s the insurance she will definitely use wen she gets the visa and arrives Germany, so it’s okay that she’s already added logically.

But insurance is the last part of the process, if it’s rejected and asked to provide from Nigeria, then she can ….

I am also applying with the German insurance…. Until I get their response on wether it’s accepted or not. I’m open to any of their decision on it.

She must get the travel health insurance regardless. I think your health insurance covers her only when she is already in Germany.

No you don’t need to get a Nigerian insurance for her. Just send her the details of the German insurance that you already added her to for her to submit to the embassy with her passport. That’s what I did and a couple of others I know and we didn’t have issues.
