The links were to provide you pointers on understanding the concepts. Once understood, you should be able to make informed decisions, and engage solicitors, agents, landlord et al. critical, and in a way as well as understand the market.
invariably, there's the 'lease' and 'free' in your buy, which is 'distinct' to rent.
TheGuyFromHR and Rubyventures have given contextual, explanatory information.

Viruses:

I just went through these links, there is actually the option to buy...as in buy gangan and become the landlord/freeholder but the article itself insinuated that it is not easy.

I've been seeing this "years of lease" on several comments here. What is the implication?

You mean you had;
1 bag of 23kg another 1 bag of 23kg. Plus your cabin luggage and laptop bag (if any).
THEN
You had an extra bag of 24kg.

And you were charged 75,000 naira for the 24 kg bag? What were you charged in dollars please? Or were you charged in naira?

[I had my 2 bags (23kg each, my hand luggage and an extra bag - 24kg. I was charged GBP140 and paid with my gtb card. The naira equivalent of approximately NGN75,000.00 was debited]

So if I buy a house for £250k for instance and the lease on it is 50 years. Does it mean after 50 years my house is no longer my own?

A leasehold property, is simply an upgraded version of renting a property (with ongoing charges)......... grin

URGENT
I should be airbound for UK by tomorrow evening
I have weighed my luggage and the total aside hand luggage is 76kg whereas I am expected to carry 23kg x 2. (46kg)
now I have an excess of about 30kg.
I am not willing to drop my foodstuff or cloth .
how can I pay or go about it.
Turkish airline says 160GBP.
thats much.

GURUS is there any way around this.
someone told me booking for extra luggage online is cheaper. but that 160GBP dosent seem to me like 'cheap'

You don't have people around you, that would love to inherit you .......... wink

So it means all these buy house buy house I've been seeing is actually long term rents and one will eventually get to renew. If not that it is still cheaper to buy, I just lose interest like this.

I talked about freehold and leasehold, in the previous thread........

Ensure, the property you're buying is got a freehold title ......

You can pay the freeholder in some cases to extend it or set it free...but the money usually crazy money. Some properties if the years left in the leasehold is small a lot of banks won't give you a mortgage for that. It would have to be a cash buyer . Making it even worse because it harder to sell . So you need to be sure of what you are doing when buying a leasehold

That been said so many flats are leasehold and recently I was looking at some properties In Sheffield. I saw 4 bedroom semi detached as a leasehold, not sure if that is a Sheffield thing . Why would a semi detached property be a leasehold

Hi, Ralph,

Could you share the "common strategies' to easily get an USA visa please.

I'm on sponsored work Visa in the UK and would like to visit my sis later on in the USA.

I have once been denied US visa when I applied from Nigeria and would want to do everything right now I'm in the UK when I'm ready to apply for it

Ralphlauren:

As lexusgs430 has suggested, travel to the US and do all your shopping. Its cheaper than you think. If you travel off peak, you can get return BA flights from London to New York for around £350-£400.

Prior to the pandemic, I would travel to the US at least twice a year for vacation and stock up on casual/office wear. Talk about using one bird to kill two stones. grin My username says it all. You get the best RL outfits for the best prices in the US. grin

If you do not hold a foreign passport, getting a US visa is very easy. You just need to understand the "common" strategy that applies for UK resident applicants.

Ralphlauren:

The key strategy for securing US visit visa as a first time applicant resident in the UK is to demonstrate recent travel history within Europe.

Unlike Nigeria, the consular officers don't really care about or ask for bank statements. What they look at is recent travel history (flipping the pages of your passport), the information provided on your online application (your job title, your gross income and detailed explanation of your job description/roles/responsibilities) and your attitude, confidence and answers provided during the interview.

People have been in the UK for 1 to 4 years and they've never bothered to visit anywhere in Europe as tourists yet they want to fly all the way to America to visit Times Square ??

In summary, apply for schengen visa and visit any European country of your choice at least once or twice. Then apply for US visa as a TOURIST with an intention to vist a city known as a tourist location. e.g. New York for 7 to 10 days.

Current students - speak to your international office and they will provide you the letter you need to apply for schengen visa. Those with part time or full time jobs - you need your payslips.

Fat account balance is not required for schengen visas. As long as your account balance equals the multiplication of the daily subsistence (i believe its around 30euros a day) and the number of days you plan to stay in Europe. E.g. you plan to visit for 5 days, all you are required to evidence in your account is minimum 150 euros. Cheap tickets are available from budget airlines especially for journeys during the week. Cheap accommodation can be sourced from the likes of booking.com and lastminute.com. Affordable travel insurance can be purchased from price comparison sites.

Its standard 2 years for Nigerians even for renewal. Ghanaians get 5 to 10 years when they renew. To the best of my knowledge, Dropbox doesn't apply in the UK.

So much wealth of knowledge in all you've typed. I've been following your posts. Thanks so much for letting God use you. I need a mentor, I'm a new student in the UK. I'll send a DM please.

You're not going through the modules to only pass the test, but to get a good knowledge of the highway code. I'd advise you cover everything and then practice the hazard perception tests a lot before you take the test.

Look for care agencies

Register as a bank staff in the NHS

Look for heath and care visa sponsorship

Next time plan properly.

The very fact that you are a student in the UK firmly rules that out.
