This was really helpful… thank you
Scott99tish:
I found this tip somewhere on Uk travel thread and might be helpful…

23kg each in two places. That's for your main luggage.
8kg max for your cabin luggage.

Total of 54kg!

Let me help with luggage packing tips, you might need them.

Tips

You're not allowed to put food or sharp objects (cutlery, blade, pocket knife etc) in your cabin luggage or carry on (hand bag/laptop bag), so pack smartly.

Tightly pack all your clothes, shoes, books, or weaves (if female) into your cabin luggage. Instead of folding clothes passively or mindlessly like we do when arranging our closet, roll each tightly into a bunch. This will squeeze out air & give you more space in the box to squeeze more clothes into. You can watch YouTube videos to learn this technique.

Now you're left with food items, sharp objects, and any cream/perfume exceeding 50ml (Only liquid of less than 50ml per bottle is allowed in the cabin luggage). Now arrange all these carefully into your main luggage.

For food items, put into ziploc bags or transparent polythene bag like pure water bags. Put different food items into each and label appropriately...e.g Melon, Ogbono, Ugwu vegetable etc.

For ladies carrying weaves, discard the packs to make your luggage relatively lighter.

Palm oil is not allowed. Don't even bother!

You don't necessarily need an industrial scale to weigh your luggage. Buy a regular domestic scale. You know the ones "Check your weight" guys carry around? Yes, that one. It's less than 2k.

To weigh, first stand on it and check your weight. Write it down or memorise it. Now put your luggage on your head and check your combined weight. Subtracting your own weight from the combined weight will give you the weight of your luggage.

Your allowance per main luggage is 23kg but aim for 21kg or max 22kg at home. Why? The scale at Murtala Mohammed Int'l Airport is forward by about 2kg. You don't want to stress yourself with reshuffling at the airport or trashing stuffs you bought with your hard-earned money. Pack smartly from home!

Airport staffs are not smiling again. Before they allow you pass/check-in a 23.9kg bag, you'll beg tire. Anything above that, they'll tell you to go obtain a ticket of $150 per overweight bag upstairs! You don't need that wahala in your life.

What else?

Remember I asked you to stuff all your clothes & books plus shoes into your cabin luggage? Trust me, it would have exceeded 8kg by now. You know the box itself will add to the weight as well.

Let me give you orijo. grin

1. Your laptop bag is not weighed. That's an extra space to put clothes, books, laptop (of course), charger etc.

2. Your hand bag isn't weighed either. If you're a lady, that's a plus. You can carry a laptop bag + your handbag alongside the cabin bag.

3. If you're eleru town council like me & you've utilised all available spaces yet you're still not within allocated kg limits, fear not. There's still a way.

Leave your original cabin luggage with somebody (eg family/friend who followed you to the airport). Let them act like they own the bag while they simply stand by it.

Check in your laptop bag as your Cabin Luggage. They'll tag it and return it to you while the two main bags are passed to cargo. Now remove the tag and stickers on your laptop bag and place it on your original Cabin Luggage you kept with your escort. You're done!

With these tips, you'll have a smooth sail luggage wise.

Extras....

Depending on how light or fancy you want to travel, those silly Echolac boxes are not your friend. 1) They'll add to the overall weight 2) They're not durable. Most would be damaged (broken handles, broken wheels, torn surface areas, etc) before you arrive your destination. How would you even lift a damaged box? You'll place it on your head maybe grin

Invest in a quality box. Might be pricey but it will last for years and save you from embarrassing situations. I don't know if/where those are sold in Nigeria.

If you're low on cash, buy those very strong bagco ghana must go bags as main luggage. Not the usual ones. This one is a bit recent & it comes in one color - grey! More like a grainy white mixed with black. It costs about N1,500 per bag. Nothing to be ashamed of. You wont even see it until your final destination after you check it in at MMIA, so you can still form posh in transit with your cabin luggage. Regular travellers use it a lot. It's very light and durable. For your information, they sell it in the abroad too. So what? In fact, its a life saver for people whose boxes get damaged at the airport. Just that they'll pay a few extra thousands more to procure it at the airport.

No use am as cabin baggage oooo. You'll look like Osuofia in London. Hehehe. Joking. Use a correct small sized box as cabin/hand luggage.

Third option is to source for lightweight boxes (rare) or lightweight travelling bags with wheels (looks like a piece of cloth with wheels attached when empty. The box-shaped compact ones are heavy).

Wishing you a safe flight!

1. The BVN of the account number, in which the money will be deducted, is to be used.
2. Everything is done online and no visit is required.

Great! Thank you, ShowYoung. I appreicate your help.

Here is what my notes says...
I am fully funded with 11,700cad left after school fees payment...

How do you think I can tackle this in my next application?

Did you provide any personal funds on your end?

If your program is for two years, did you indicate that your funding will be provided for year 1 and year 2?

You need to clearly explain your funds, possibly use a table in your loe.

You may need to strengthen your home ties too....

Best of luck

Just Google up "list of DLI schools that offer pgwp in Canada" or just ask Google "does X university/college offer pgwp in Canada"
Thank you for the prompt response Bro but what I'm asking is how to know if a course qualifies for the PGWP in a school that is qualified or all courses qualify for it?

Once you check for the DLI, scroll to the left you'll see another section "eligible for PGWP"

If it's yes(details) it means not all courses will be eligible.

Better still mail the program coordinator to confirm

Thank you so much. I will do just that.
It will end in praise
CentennialGuy:

This is what I think you need to explain clearly in your Letter of Explanation. Doing the maths for the VO even. And backing it with the documents for the funding and tuition fee waiver.

Adding your own personal statement of account with some decent money there that shows you can handle other miscellaneous expenses will be great too.

this is completely true if your course of interest is in-demand.

Look into Health and IT.

All the best

@olokings, let's connect, my wife also got admission. Yet to pay the school fees after passport renewal at the end of the month.

.
olokings:
Already have admission and deposit paid for Fall 2022.

They're pretty fast with admission too though.

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by DestinationCann: 12:04pm On Apr 06, 2022
The screenshot isn't too legible. However, the little I was able to read shows the VO I concerned about career progression.

VO also thinks the funding given to you is not the full cost of the study as an international student. So you need to check your letters to know the cost of the program for an international student and compare with the amount the school has given you as funding.

If there is a different between your 14k funding and the cost of the program for intentional students fee, you need to provide POF for the difference.

Post a clearer screenshot of your notes though.

You can upload but qulife would still send same result to IRCC.

Thank you boss man.

Another question, do you think I should send my passport now or wait till my Toddler's medical is done, posted and PPR given?

She got medical request while I got a PPR.

IOM booked her for 20th of April, qlife insists there's no slot.

Scott99tish:
Nothing spoil.
Many has been stamped without it.

Just send the Passport Request letter with the Correspondence of Biometrics you received together to show that you did it with other details.

They will stamp it.

I don't think I understand you.

How much is the total school fees?
How much was your funding?
What does tution waiver mean if you got funding?
Is the school reducing school fees for you 2ce?

lilangel20:
My funding was 16,500cad. I got a tuition waiver in which i am to pay just 5,030cad. Meaning I would be left with 11,000cad
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by Benwems(m): 12:18pm On Apr 06, 2022
Ketima:

Hello Benwems,

We all should understand that this word lumpsum depends on the nature of the account in question. If for instance the account before now and for a very long time has inflows that runs into thousands and millions being deposited into the account every week or two, then is not a lump sum and need no explanation. But when an account before hand has never had such inflow and all of a sudden, such inflows like that starts coming in, that's when you need to explain to the VO the source of funds and squash what he may perceived as account buildup for demonstration purposes.

So, before now, is the account used to receiving such sums per week or is just starting. If just starting, and as a lecturer, you have many reasons to use and tag such inflows as which can be from book sales, research proceeds etc.

Thank you very much for your reply. The account only receives monthly salary of about 230,000. The build starts and it starts receiving 950,000 or 890,000(within that range) 3 out of four weeks.

Getting PR is not always all about getting a job, this is why I asked if you know anything about MPNP, RNIMP and the program that New Brunswick requires you to do and apply for PNP in your final semester which is 6 months before graduation if you are studying in one year course?

Are you aware of AINP?

People that get problem are the ones who say, "I want to live in Ontario or BC", if you don't care and ready to live in any province or territory to get a PR, I am sure you don't have to tie your PR to jobs. Many PNPs are calling graduates if you care to know.

I also weigh in worst case scenario:
I asked if you're aware of 1+1 course strategy.

Show young you sound very enlightened about the subject.

If one does 1year course at a college in a province and another 1year course at another college in another province. Based on 1+1, will he/she be qualified for 2 or 3 years PGWP irrespective of studying in different provinces provinces

How many years is your program? If 11,700 will be left and it's more than a year program, there will be concerns.

Did you submit your bank statement, how much was available when you applied?

What other proof of economic establishment did you show?

These questions will help you to address the concerns before reapplying.

Hi everyone, thank you for all you do in the group, kindly see my Gcms note below and add your inputs on way to go, all suggestions will be duly appreciated. Note: This is a second time refusal..

There is lack of evidence of relationship or previous support from third-party sponsor.

Who is your sponsor?

What commitment did you sponsor make before you applied? Commitments include paying tuition and or transferring your living expenses to your account.

What evidence of relationship or previous support from your sponsor did you submit? These includes birth and marriage certificates, family tree diagram, pictures, bank statement showing previous support from the sponsor, etc.

if I understood what you wrote,

You have a partial funding of 11,000 and you are to pay 5030.

From your previous response, you only submitted 150k as upkeep?

If the above are true, it was not a fully funded program and the upkeep is to small to cater for stay in Canada.

How to open GIC in canada

First you go to there website https://pay.cibc.com/ISBO/payment/#/ and create a profile.
1. You are applying for student GIC program

2. Minimum amount is $10000, you can do upto $20000 but bear in mind that this money will only be available on tranches for a period of 8 months or so.

3. Select resident country

4. Do not check the I'd like to pay in canadian dollars box

5.. you will see an amount in USD click on it and continue, that amount will be held for 20 minutes while u fill the form

6. After filling the form you will be contacted by the bank in 1-2 business days with an account number to pay into

7.. proceed to the bank and make the payment from a USD account

NOTE: payment can be only made once before you arrive to Canada. And PAYMENT MUST BE MADE FROM THE SAME NAME ACCOUNT OTHERWISE THEY WILL RETURN YOUR MONEY
promo4:

Please can you throw more light on this? How does the GIC work? Is $10k worth how much?

Also, that would be $23k which is not readily available. Only $20k is available at the moment. $26k will be available by first week of June but school resumes in September which i think is late already.

Thanks

Thanks , i did all these you mentioned. I added a picture of us , his letter of sponsorship, and notarized gifts deeds.. Sponsor is my Marternal uncle and has paid almost half of my tuition deposit.
V.O noted that i didn't add birth certificate and Marriage certificate , sigh !

Also said i do not have money to support myself without the interference of Uncle , i an a 23years old and working , i currently have up to 200k in my account. Asides money for my study that uncle sent. Thank you , i await your futher inputs .

Sincerely, you've really tried with all you have done.

But with my own little understanding, I'll suggest that coupled with advice you were given, try to build your personal account before you apply.

The VO had concerns about your economic establishment to some degree. And truthfully, 200k naira is too small for your own personal account. Try to raise more money in the next 3-4 months before you apply.

You may ask your uncle to send some money to your mom or siblings and they will send to you and do a gift deed. VO will be likely more satisfied if it's coming from parent or siblings, in addition to your sponsorship from your Uncle. The VO noticed every single funds (sponsorship and gift deed) you showed if from your Uncle and that may be overwhelming.

If you think it'll be difficult to do it yourself, seek the help of gurus here, talk to Makano, Omiinii, Ketima and many others who have experience... You really need to get it right this time around and let it be your last application.

All the best

Litigation is the next step of approach here. We shouldn't be brain storming over broiler plate reasons. I don't know if IRCC know there a low chance of you opting for judicial review, that's why they are playing with people's application or what. Well, you said you have 11k left after sorting tuition as you're fully funded. maybe you can show more accumulated funds to like 20k and reapply explaining you have living expenses. You can do GIC or SDP to further confirm that these funds will be directed towards your living expenses in Canada If I'm to take a wild guess I know you'll rather reapply than taking Legal action which is sad as they'll keep treating us like this because they know. It is well.

Ps: I couldn't see the case notes clearly, I'm just taking your word for it.
