It's Easter holiday, I used the opportunity of not having a busy schedule to visit one of the most iconic figure , Charismatic, Revolutionary leader in the history of not just Africa but the world at large, Nelson Mandela's house at 8115 Vilakazi street, Orlando West,Soweto.This was the house he was living with Winnie Mandela before his arrest in 1962, while winnie continue staying there when Nelson was in Prison.

This was said to be Nelson Mandela's bathing bowl back in the days

The front view of Nelson Mandela's house, note the house still has lot of bullet holes , the house was once petrol bombed , it was renovated, but the house still in its original state

Inside view of Nelson Mandela's bedroom, the small bed in the room was said to have been borrowed from the kids! This was the bed Nelson slept on till 1962 when the Apartheid police arrested him

The house was called A Match box house, due to the small nature of it, it's a very small house , these are pictures taken from Mandel's sitting room

Found this hanging in Mandela's sitting room! It's an Honorary chieftaincy title, as a war general from Delta state Nigeria

Great thread.... interesting... educative. They did well to make his home a monument... a tourist attraction. Just going through this thread brought on a sadness in me... is like it touched my soul ... this man is the legend of legends. But then I got angry when almost all of our African leaders instead of following the path of this our own ... follow a different path that leads us to disunity and genocide.

It's been maintained and it's an heritage site! It receives lot of visitors daily , so it must be maintained
