It is very unethical and presumptuous of someone to ask you if you are born again. There is no indication in the Bible that anyone was asked if he was born again by the apostles of Christ or Christ himself. Being born again is a personal, very personal business between you and God. No one should know or ask anybody if he were born again. Not one person was asked this question in the Bible.

Notwithstanding, Jesus said that you will be known by your fruit not by any tag or identification. All you need to know is if one believes in Christ and in the Bible. Take that stupid question far from anyone. It is like asking someone who he voted for in an election.

There was nothing known as BORN AGAIN in the churches of Christendom until a man called Emmanuel Odumosu started gathering gullible followers in Lagos Nigeria.
Emmanuel Odumosu wanted to attract many people to his church but since other churches have gained ground he needs to introduce something new so as to make his church look or sound unique among others, that's why he laid greater emphasis on what Jesus told Nicodemus at John 3:5-6.
Back then his followers always echo the phrase:
"YEE MUST BE BORN AGAIN!"
So that when you read your Bible and see it written you will feel you've been missing out a lot since your church never emphasized on that!

Great news for you! The Bible asks you to mind your business. The work Christians have is not to judge those OUTSIDE. Focus on the ones INSIDE that you know. 1 Corinthians 5:12 -13.

So, when you meet a new person for the first time, be positive. Stop looking for cracks on his shell. Do what Peter did (extend you arm of friendship Galatians 2:9). As time goes on, God will reveal the intention of one's heart 1 corinthians 4:5.

When you meet someone, ask the necessary questions and do not make anyone feel uncomfortable meeting you. Be nice and friendly. If he says thay he is a Christian and believes in the Bible, rather than asking nerve-wrenching questions, engage him in friendly conversation based on the Bible.

From such encounter you may figure out his depth of knowledge or his spiritual inclination. Again, it takes time.

Never you bombard a man for identifying as a Christian. You will be acting like a Pharisee. Matthew 23:15.
