Nigerians are a strange breed!

Sad everyone thinks it’s hating, but it’s a human phenomenon. The principle of haggling.

Growing up my mom has a shop, attached to our house, she sells soft drinks, groceries, biscuits etc,all our tenants patronised her ardently, unless she doesn't have what they wanted to buy.
Now that I'm working and earning my own money,I do wonder if she ever made profits then because if we need anything,we go to her shop and take it. Chai bless you mama. kiss

So many factors. Some of those neighbours selling those items don't have good manners, some have entitlement mentality, others have poor organisation, complacency, customer service, selling at higher price. Envy could also be part of the reason, or accumulated grudges, the list is endless. I have always patronize my neighbours though. I could remember when I was younger, my mom stop me from patronizing one of our neighbours because of her manners. Same applies to church members, even family members.

To avoid see finish

If you want to enjoy your afternoon cold garri and groundnut with fish

Buy Garri at your first neighbours shop and let him think you want to make Eba

Buy Sugar at your second neighbours shop to make her think you want to drink tea with it

Buy cold pure water at the next street and have them think you want to drink it cos you are thirsty

By the fish on your way home so that they might think it's a gift for your kids

Lastly never take the same route the next day when buying your food

The day you decide to buy garri, sugar, groundnut and fish in the same neighbours shop is the day they start seeing you as a poor man in your neighbourhood

Maybe your mom doesn't have a great attitude. You see good customer service is very important in any business. Tell your mom to greet people even if they are younger than her, tell her to smile more and learn how to crack jokes and her business will turn around. Maybe she's always frowning her face and acting entitled. Tell her to watch YouTube videos and learn how to smile and crack jokes. Goodluck.
Lol, you don't know as e dey go undecided

I don't attach unnecessary sentiment when having business dealings.
You are free to buy anywhere you like but don't come tell me that my goods is too expensive or come ask me for credit, I don't know how to pretend about such, I tell you point blank that I didn't put it down for you.
My dad still insulted someone on phone recently, he came to collect his(my dad's) contact, called him to request for credit, my dad could not really get whom the person is, he only asked him, do you buy from that shop before (dad is usually at a different shop), the idiot said no, that where he normally get, it's not available but he needs few to sort out the project, my dad said; emi no gbese ro l'orun abi, ma gbe e shepe l'ojo to ba tun pe mi fun iru e (na me debt fit abi, I will curse you the day you call me again for such)

..... Sorry about that. But at times those neighbours selling stuffs close to you will be selling at a more exorbitant amount thinking that because they are very close to you,you don't have a choice.

Another is that some sells fake and want to manipulate you into buying it because you are all neighbours

Let me give you an example. A woman that owns a super store very close to me sold me an expired bag of rice and when I went back to complain to her,she started making an issue out of it. I left both the bag of rice and the money and till today we have never bought anything from there.

Some are out of jealousy.
So many factors my dear.

The first time I bought shoes from a neighbor, I was disgraced at an event as the supposed new shoe separated apart. The sole went South and the leather went East. The shame no be here.

Worst of all they be greeting you everyday, smiling
Observing if you are making sales, then judge u all around if you are not

And immediately you start doing well, selling well then they will come with thier yeye mouth asking you 'if there's chance for them' . that why we should always pray hard that God shouldn't put our eat in ebenies hand.

It better they don't buy from you than to be owing you money, some people will use the fact that you are neighbours and be buying things on credit from you therby killing the business and if you don't sell to them they will bad-mouth you to other potential customers.

I think you should just try and be friendly with people generally because those that will buy will buy and those who will not buy will not buy.

My mom owns a boutique, but you see neighbour's going as far as the other road to buys things instead of just buying from us. Wearing new palms everyday, when we have same quality but they prefer buying elsewhere. I don't know why.

Same with my OGa that am learning barbing at his shop, some neighbour's don't cut hair at his place... This guy is so good and friendly that the whole Street knows him. He barbs very well too, but some people that stays opposite his stores always barb from somewhere else, but in the evening no light, they come to charge their devices.

Please why's that

It’s left for you to talk with them
Maybe your customer service is poor & they can always choose to not buy without feeling any guilt whatsoever.
You have to figure out ways to politely lure them.

Relationships should be well defined. A neighbour is a neighbour and not a customer.

I began to wonder how we got here. The audacity. This is a neighbour that doesn't give 2 fvcks about my business 5years as neighbours.
I detest such a neighbour. Please be very careful.

Many factors decide whom you patronize for goods and services. Sociocultural cliques, busness/economic
benefits, personal preferences and security.
Security- We don't buy raw goods in my area. I buy drinks.

Sociocultural cliques- i am in the same sociocultural cliques with my tailors. They are good as those in my area. I still barb in my area.

Personal preference- i have specific barbers i patronize. One in my area, others are close to my office. I have specific supermarkets i buy things from. Some are close to my house, others are not.

Business/economic- cost and quality of services and goods etc. are also consideration.

At time or most times people want to do business in a free environment where they can bargain and bargain ams if it doesn't work out you walk away with out feeling guilt of hurting the seller due to uoir bargaining power

But if the same thing is done in the street and to a neighbour who knows your house, they will feel that you are too stingy and can price for Africa

Unless a situation where we all know that a particular item or product is sold at a particular price then, that's all they will buy from you without pricing as they already knows the price

The other place may be run by their relatives, friends, etc.

Your neighbours probably already have places they patronise before your mum opened her store.

People don't appreciate customers they are overly familiar with. Often, sell substandard products, hike the price unnecessarily.

Lastly, the entitlement. No one owes your mum patronage. People have choice, allow them exercise it.
Don't bring money into friendship.
Simple..
Your neighbours prefer to remain so, neighbours.
They don't want to risk their neutral relationship with you.
What if they buy your thing, and the thing spoils or fails in their house and they get injured/whatever?
You will now face them everyday, for the rest of your life, shouting and cursing you, morning, afternoon and evening

If you want to do business, go away from your house and do it with strangers in another place.

At the end of each day, you come home and sleep! No disturbance..
