The problem with some supposedly "educated people" is their inability to reason. because something is done in Texas does not mean it is ideal for Nigeria. Building code and land scaping requirements are based mostly on environmental factors like rainfall and vegetation need for the specific place.

Texas and Ibadan do not have comparable climate and environmental needs. Its ignorance to replicate similar land scaping in both places.

I've only seen one person do asphalt on here. It looked the business alright.

I did plain concrete and my driveway in granite.

I'm very pleased with the outcome.

The why's. I actually like concrete. For the granite driveway it's a way to give mother nature her water back into the grounds. I mimicked what I had in Texas except for the grass part.

Yeah, I love the natural drainage that a granite driveway offers...I'm seriously considering it, or interrupted concrete slabs, for my walkways in the green areas, but my driveway would have to be something more 'intact'...if you know what I mean. Asphalt would be my preferred option, as long as the cost isn't too prohibitive.

Someone actually told me asphalt is cheaper than interlocking and concrete, but I kinda doubted him, and that's why I sought to get alternative opinions on here.

I encourage you to at least get your perimeter lighting on solar. That’s what I’m doing. Now when I off my gen my compound isn’t immediately plunged into darkness. I also did the street frontage.

If you can figure it out, I still can’t, then getting these out of China is even cheaper.

We have perfected the harvesting of gravity to give us portable water in Nigeria as the government continues to fail. So we build water towers in our projects.

The next element we now need to harvest cheaply is the sun energy but the solar panels and even the accompanying batteries can be very expensive. Here comes these plug and play devices. With proper planning and a bit of ingenuity, one can even light the whole house with these plug and play solar devices and leave the heavy duty stuff like ironing to generators.

I'm lucky. I'm buying them now, and when I'm coming to Nigeria, I just bring them as hand luggage. I'm planning on powering ALL lighting only for a three bedroom bungalow by solar plug and play devices as a test case. No solar panels, no batteries; just plug and play.
