That's bay leaf.. it's used to add flavour and that "party" aroma to the jollof rice.

Bay leaf... It adds DISTINCT aroma and the slight bay leaf flavor in the smokey party Jollof rice.

The leave is in the rice but people still don't eat it so why put it if they don't eat it but if you mistakly eat it what is the side effects grin
