The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU has extended their strike action by 12 weeks starting from 12; 01 am on Monday, 2022.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Asodeke who announced the extension in a press statement said the union took the decision after the National Executive Council had an emergency meeting at their secretariat at the University of Abuja.

Asodeke said after they extensively deliberated on government intervention to end the strike action so far and discovered that the government refused to live up to their responsibilities to the issues which they raised at the 2020 FGN/ASUU MOU they decided to roll over the strike to 12 weeks to give government time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues.

Asodeke said the union is disappointed, according to him, the committee which the Federal government set up to resolve the lingering strike issue, did not call one single meeting till date.
