It's actually taking a toll on the lecturers themselves. This no work, no pay system adopted by the government has really done much harm to them.

I recently saw a video of a Dean of Student Affairs in one of the top universities farming. Members of ASUU need to get engaged in other things to survive.

Also, retailers and business people in these institutions affected by the strike are also affected.
UNN. I saw the video too. He's a proud farmer by the way

The pathetic part of this ASUU is that the younger ones are getting discouraged and thinking education is no longer the key to success, they now engage in side hustle legit and non legit, e.g fraud yahoo, betting, rituals. Keeping people idle with the level of hunger in town, my dear wahala dey

ASSU is trying to so hard to prove their relevance.

But even if the strike is called off and their demands are met completely, they still have nothing to offer.

Low IQ lecturers reading textbooks word for word and professors with 1956 trends in their brain, they can't even impact useful knowledge, people still go abroad to acquire knowledge that could be impacted here.

But what do I know, I am just a student being tutored by unqualified lecturers. Query them about their flaws and mistakes, they will find a way to blame the Government, they are like women, they never take responsibility for their actions.

They should go on for as long as they want to, a time will come and they will become irrelevant.

Useless set of Educated People.

Prof. Muhammad Waziri of Geography Dept. University of Maiduguri wrote:

If 20,000 students make a trip to the campus by public transport with an average of N200 daily, that's N4m.
If 20,000 students eat lunch at school at N200 daily, that's another N4m.
If 20,000 students photocopy 20 pages of document at N10 each daily, that's another N4m

By this, just 20,000 students inject N12m daily to the local economy.
During 3 months of strike, N1.08bn is lost by transporters, food vendors, business centres.etc.
Expand this to the actual number of students in the Universities in the country.

BUT WHO CARES?
I went to university of Abuja yesterday, the people selling food as well as the people doing printing are stranded

Why will 20,000 (about the total population of students in some of the most populous universities in the country) photocopy 20 documents each day?!

Maybe it shows the quality of what you are teaching them mr. Professor. They prefer to photocopy notes than to attend classes.
.
Mr. Professor, go and sit down, you are part of those that rigged the system for spoilage. Enjoy what you served.
Is it that you haven't attended higher institution before?

Rather than the lecturers dictating note, they will release it for photocopying. Then they will just come to class to explain the note.

So you think because he's a dean, he shouldn't be farming?

Let me remind you that OBJ a former president is a farmer.

I say it again, if all the students in a university have to do this everyday then it shows the poor quality of the educational system in those universities. Mr. Professor should stop disturbing our peace.

It can't be everyday but almost everyday.

Let's get practical:
Imagine students offering 10 courses. Each course has about 10 topics. That is 100 topics in all.100 topics to be photocopied throughout the semester.
Several assignments too will need to be printed all through.

You are a good example of the kind of uncouthed and arrogant lecturers we have in the system that instead of them to correct students, they end up stepping on their confidence and killing their eagerness to learn.

You should be ashamed.

To think that I hate writing the correct spelling gives me goosebumps.

It means Academic Staff Suffering of Universities.

One lousy lecturer is already trying to feel Superfly. grin

Of course the union is a suffering to Nigerian Universities, every student and honest lecturer out there attending/working in these Universities.

If given the opportunity, I will ban you all from furthering your kids abroad.

Rubbish.

Shallow IQ. Before you critic, do a little deep thinking. The numbers are a conservative average. One student can photocopy ONE textbook that is more than 200 pages a day. That is not handout, seminar, assignment or PowerPoint slides for presentations. There are departments with over 3000-4000 students in schools with over 20-30 departments (conservatively). That's over 60k - 120k students as against the 20k he mentioned. So what he did is an average estimation. No dey rush to criticize wetin you no understand, sir.

FG should stop subsidizing tertiary education. It has to happen as soon as possible.
All over the world, even in countries with exorbitant school fees, government still provides some levels of subsidies. The subsidy that needs to stop is that of the lifestyle of the political class., not education, not health.

Well, it's good you explained yourself so that we can easily know those who are already running mad.

Thank you so much for doing that.

Please if you don't mind, I will also like you to explain this line I bolded because I don't really understand what you are trying to say there.

Or is it that same madness of yours trying to get ahead of you?
Re: Does ASUU Strike Affect Only Students? by RepoMan007: 10:32am On May 12, 2022
Good advice but the loss of the campus community is the gain of the another community where the students end up taking transport, eating sharwama, drinking cold beer, and buying internet data. The real loss here is that of productive hours being cut off from the students time of graduation.

The gutter level of thought is the one quoted above, in my opinion. Nigeria has close to 100M BELOW poverty line., people who can't have a meal/day. These are the people connected to the chain the professor has described. Those are the real indices. Not those that can establish or run industries. You can write about that, if you so wish.

If your reason to produce is to payback Chinese loans then you either don't live in Nigeria or you're totally disconnected from the reality on ground. Because the next political set would even borrow more for nothing. Imagine a country like Nigeria borrowing $1.96 Billion to fund railway project to Maradi, in Niger Republic., borrowing N4.1Trillion to fund fuel subsidy, all at the expense of the people the Professor is talking about and you call that "gutter"?

FG is supposed to provide an enabling environment for manufacturing/production to thrive. Do you have that in Nigeria? Even when you create one, multiple taxation, insecurity and poor purchasing power of the citizens will crumble the business and here you are insulting the wrong person. Let's be serious in this country please.
