Hi all,

Is anyone kind enough to share tips/experience with soft landing in the Toronto Area? Any information on staying for an initial 3 weeks. Do I need an international driving licence sorted out before I travel for instance.

Cheers.

international driving license applies to long term visitors no PR, you can drive with your Nigerian licence for 60 or 90 days ( confirm the exact date online) . Come with driving extract from frsc if you have at least 2 years driving experience from Nigeria. Do your SIN, register for health card, open a bank account and collect your cards. Wait for you pr card to also come in the mail.

Hi I sent you a message to make enquiries
owee:
Male roommate wanted

Hello guys

Flatmate needed from May 1st in Saint John, New Brunswick (Uptown apartment, 9 minutes walk to MBA campus and close to most amenities)
One room is available and goes for $355/month plus utilities(excluding power and internet). This should be good for a student or new immigrant just landing and need a cost-effective place for the next 3 to 6 months (given the way prices of houses have consistently been on the rise).

Interested, hola!

Abeg, I need some clarification on a few things. I moved to Canada recently from the US, but I have employment history in Nigeria.
When Canadian employers use third parties like Certn to conduct employment checks, do they contact our employers in Nigeria? I'm going through a background check right now which includes employment checks. My experience is a little overstated and I'm worried the employment check will reveal this. Should I be worried? As far as I can read from the website, they say they will contact the HR of the company.

Yes, you should be worried.

In fact , you should be more worried about your inability to complete a given task (based on what you said you can do) if you do get the job and the snowballing effect this will have on your Canadian career journey since you overstated your previous experience.

Thanks a lot for the tip. Don't I need a stable address in order to open a bank account and get the health card and SIN card? I plan to sort out a temporary accommodation during my 3 weeks stay. Do you advice I use a friend's address for receiving the PR card?

speak to your friend about all these or search the thread. Most people used friends address for pr card.

Save your advice. Doing the job is not the problem. I do that above and beyond.

dangerous thing to do, but most times they only verify the company exists and dates you worked with the company.

Yo! I would not recommend you drive when you get to Toronto area if you’ve never driven in a North American country. That might not end well.

Your Nigerian drivers license with at least 1 year from date of issue is all you need in Ontario, well, as far back as February 2020, a couple of friends did get to use only their Nigerian drivers license(without the extract) to waive the 1year wait between g1 and g2. One in Hamilton ON and the other in Etobicoke ON. So, if you can’t get the extract and you’re coming to Ontario, you should be good.

EDGEof2MORO:
What if you submit your Nigerian drivers license? Could it work?
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Masekid: 1:53am On May 17, 2022
There is a telegram group for Nigerians in Ontario and they add you to the group only if you’re landed. So, when you’re landed, send me a pm and I’d help request they add you.

icehot:
Is there a WhatsApp group for Nigerians in Ontario? Can someone help me with the invite link, please? Thank you

I am also looking for a room in a shared house in Ontario. If you are living in one or know of any vacancy, I am very interested, please.

Thank you

Please does the Nigerian license need to still be valid as at the time of application in Canada?

I’m not sure, as I have not heard of anyone who used an expired license, but I’ll definitely recommend it be valid to avoid issues that touch!

Hi all.,
Please advise PNP or CEC which is better route for PR?

Worked in Manitoba for 3 months already.
But leaving for another job by June in Manitoba Should be eligible for MPNP - December ending 2022.

CEC -February 2023.

Presently on an open work permit working in Manitoba but getting better job offers in Alberta and Ontario.

Now my question is which is advisable to go for with the current trends?
MPNP will take some time before giving ITA ,then subsequently take some months to process before giving nomination that will used for PR application. So that may run into 2023.

CEC should be ready for by February 2023 all things being equal.

Thank you. Mine just expired this May and I don’t see the point of renewing when I’ll be applying next month. Fingers crossed there’ll be no issues.

Please if I get a drivers license this month, can I use it when I arrive Canada. It’s a fresh license as I have never had one before. Does it matter if the date is May 2022?

60 or 90 days as applicable to the different provinces. After that you will have to wait 10 months or 9 months as applicable to write provisional road test. Reality is you wont buy a car that you will be able to drive for only 2 months. So your wait time is realistically one year after landing to do Provisional road test.
