The bulk of Tinubu base is Yoruba.
Currently, Yoruba is galvanized around cultural identity and territorial security. Tinubu is not a cultural leader for Yoruba, his loyalty is also broad and attached to a greater Nigeria. He is not in lock-step with Yoruba affairs and however much his supporters try to portray him as a leader, that leadership attribute ends in politics, an aspect considered low in the priority of survival for Yoruba.

Regardless which party Tinubu camps in, he will need the general Nigerian population to believe in him, far more than his dependence on Yoruba loyalty. He failed to secure a loyal attachment to Yoruba when he had opportunity. Yorubaland is more than just the boundary of Lagos. Moreover, even in Lagos, Tinubu's greed in monopolizing state assets for himself and family has turned the people against him.

The best he can do now is reach out to all Nigerians he can rally behind him. The competition is fierce and the much respected myths around Tinubu greatness has been shattered. A very vivid example is the followup visit of Amaechi to Kaduna few days after Tinubu visited and received warm endorsenents. In Kaduna Tinubu has been superimposed by Amaechi.

Buhari has only one vote himself but a declaration of support for Tinubu can translate to millions more, but Buhari has witheld declaring him a successor.

It is not good for Tinubu at home or in his party. Moreover, everytime he talks in public his arrogance oozes and turn more people away.
