Now, there is Nabiyy ( Prophet) and Rasul ( Messenger).

All messengers are prophets but not all prophets are messangers. In essence, Messangers have a higher rank with God than those who are prophets only.

Prophets are people sent by God to guide people back to law when humans are going astray. Their teachings is based on the law of a messenger who had preceded them.

Messengers on the other hand are sent with new laws and teachings by God to people. They usually come with a law giving to them by God.

John, Zechariah, Joseph, Aaron etc are prophets.

Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad SAW are messengers. Note that I am not saying these 6 are the only messengers. There are other messengers.

In summary, Any prophet that is giving a scripture or a new law with whom he judges between people is a messanger.

Messengers are superior to prophets.

Hence Jesus a messenger and prophet is superior to John who is a prophet only Peace be upon them all.

A Prophet is a man approved by God to men. If you have this approval from God, you will do what God has anointed you for. All you need is the permission of God to those miracles. This was the message in Act 2:22

"Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know"
