Akwa Ibom State government has firmed up an agreement with African Delta Power Limited to add additional 366 megawatts to the existing 191 megawatts to the state Ibom power plant.

The new deal shows that the aggregate maximum capacity of the gas turbine generator unit was capable of producing up to 732 megawatts.

As it stands, Ibom Power will need to apply to the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, for licence expansion as the company has an on-grid license for 685MW.

State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, signed the deal on behalf of the state government, while the Board Chairman of Ibom Power, Etido Inyang and Secretary of the company, Ime Asibong, signed for Ibom Power and Jemeriah Oluwaseun and Christabel Nwagum (CEO of African Delta and Secretary respectively) signed the agreement on behalf of African Delta Power.

The ceremony took place at the office of the Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government and Chairman of the One-Stop Shop on Investment Committee, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem.
The proposed power plant will be developed as part of Phase II of the IPP.

The SSG said the agreement was “not an MoU but rather a step further, which has transited the MoU phase.”

In the actual sense, what they are generating in this country is darkness because we don't get to see the light.

Seen ehn, it's not like nigeria cannot give us 40,000 mega watts of power it's just that they know that electricity solves half the problem of this nation and they dont want that.

Maximum respect to the current govt of that state unlike the previous ones that milked the state dry whose only significant achievement was to build a stadium just before the end of their 8 years tenure.

What is left now is for these developments to reflect in the lives of the indigenes, a state that blessed shouldn't have a larger portion of its citizens surviving on menial jobs in other parts of the country.

Their govt needs to look into building massive manufacturing industries on top of the rapidly developing infrastructure

Power generation and distribution is not rocket science- Babatunde Fashola 2015 grin

But truly, state government should be allowed to generate and distribute power to her people then send whatever power they have left to the national grid. If the federal government feels that some state might not be well powered due to financial constraints of those states, the federal government can then supply them from the national grid.

Nothing stops states, federal and private from generating and distributing power.

The whole power thing is just embarrassing as many other Nigeria's problem. Most are not rocket science grin

It’s my humble opinion that power generation should be taken away from the exclusive list for proper development!

Electricity generation and increasing capacity may solve a temporary solution in power sector which I commend Akwa Ibom for doing but hope the price for knowledge can be paid in full commitment without have to bond or stock by counting ups and downs of trends in MegaWatts like the Oil Sector?
