I did all I was suppose to do. Graduate coordinator kept saying UCF is a big school and competition is fierce. I was advised to resume and that funding may be available in the second year.

Well funding is highly competitive everywhere.
If you resume, do you have money for first year? If yes then no wahala. If not please spread your wings.

Best of luck

Ok.

The first school is Florida A and M university which was a backup plan. PhD Industrial Engineering

Second and first choose is University of Central Florida, PhD Industrial Engineering.

Check these schools
University of Michigan
University of Cincinnati
Georgia Southern university
University of Houston
Western Carolina University
And few others. There are few schools that offer your course you can't just choose 2 out of everything

No money and I can’t even imagine paying for a PhD. I’d finish service and shoot for fall 2023.

Thanks for the list .

Hi Guys, I was denied visa in Lagos. I’m trying to reapply and get a new date in Abuja but the portal says no available date. Please does anyone know how I may get a date or any group I can join to keep watch? It seems reapplication are in a different date portal and have a tougher time getting dates

I got admitted in Northeastern University Portland campus (Roux Institute) for Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering for fall 2022 with $25,000 scholarship. Any idea about this campus related to course and co-op opportunities. Please share your thoughts and if anyone planning to take this university for spring please let me know.

Please do not start a PhD without guaranteed funding. Settle down and shoot for 2023 like you said. This time ensure that the universities you are applying to have guaranteed funding for all admitted PhD students. That way you will be working towards getting admitted. Do all you can to boost your application as it is usually considered holistically.

Wish you all the best.

I arrived the embassy before 6:30 and waited till we were beckoned by the security for the business of the day. Started with security/documents check and thereafter CGI. At the CGI point the lady sent me back to retake my passport, touts use me shine.

Village people 1 - 0 Me

Got inside and started waiting turns to be interviewed, I noticed there were three windows today conducting interviews; 8 (balded male vo), 9 (female vo) and 10 (younger female vo).

There were alot of white paper issuance I saw today. Green paper too, but minimal.

There was no Korean in sight today so no need to dodge.

Village people 1 - 1 Me

It got to my turn and I went to young lady in window 10 for my interview. Greeted her and gave her my i20 and passport. She started their usual typing and then the following ensued:

Q1 How long have I worked in my current job

A. 1 year and 8 months

Q2 How long have I worked in my previous job

A. 2 years and 1 month

Q3 Do I have a study leave

A. Not yet. This is pending getting my visa approval

Q4 What is my post study plan

A. I intend to return to my current place of work, in a mid level management position. My organization is undergoing a transition phase and this is expected to last 3-5 years during which our operations will expand beyond the western region to a nationwide coverage. This will open up many positions and with my experience and degree, I will be positioned to fill one of these new positions.

Then the magic words came with the white paper.

Village people 1 - 2 Me
(Full time score)

No documents were asked asides passport and i-20. Maintained eye contact all through. Had zero tension, abi anxiety.

*Three weeks ago (yes, three weeks ago) I did not have my i-20, interview date or made any payment for my Visa. applied for EA in Lagos and they bounced me before I switched to Abuja and got a close regular date. I didn't even know my funding will be full till I saw my i-20. And I was expected to be in school before July 5 for start of my summer classes. My DSO was doubtful of my chances cos the timing was too close.

Fast forward to today, I'm checking flights to Midtown St Louis and warming breakfast to serve my employer. Everything happened so fast and I'm yet to process all of these. GOD IS REAL.

Thank you to everyone who responded to questions, contributed and supported others here. Y'all the real MVPs.

It really took a village to make this happen
wow I am happy for you
are you on scholarship or you would be paying your school fees yourself??

For a start, I am new to this part of nairaland. I just stumbled upon this part in my quest to get answers to some questions bothering me.
I applied for a student visa appointment today and the date given to me was June 29, 2023.
The problem is that my school resumes on August 8, 2022.
Now, to the whole house, these are my questions:
1. Can I reschedule my Visa appointment to a date earlier before my school resumption date? If yes, please how?
2. Am yet to pay my SEVIS fee, will it affect my seeking for an early appointment date?
3. Can I pay my SEVIS fee using my local bank account?
4. Is the SEVIS fee refundable if visa is denied?
Please I will so much appreciate it if someone can be of help in answering these questions bothering me.

Not many schools offer Industrial Engineering. I would have suggested you tried Manufacturing Engineering, but I doubt if they offer this up to PhD level.

Try this... Look up schools offering Mechanical Engineering with some sort of specialization in Industrial, Production or Systems Engineering.

Also, do all you can to make your profile super competitive. If you didn't take the GRE, now will be a good time to start prepping. If you did and feel you can do better, then retake it.

All the best.

Hello,

I did take the GRE with 329/340. My problem is that I have a HIgher National Diploma and not a Bachelors degree.

I’m not interested in Mechanical Engineering as I read Mechanical Engineering in undergrad. Mechanical engineering is unnecessarily difficult and I’m not sure I can cope.

I would be interested in a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering ( I specialize in this field). I’m also open to funded Msc programs.

You have a very impressive GRE. Lols.... I understand Mechanical can be unnecessarily difficult, but the aim here is not to study mechanical in its entirety. You are specializing in the area you need... You might not take fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Although you might need to take some core, depending on how the school structures their curriculum.

I don't think there is PhD for Manufacturing Engineering. Since you are open to MS, then shoot for Manufacturing Engineering. Most schools won't fund Industrial Engineering at MS level. It is viewed like a management course like 'Engineering Management.'

I still think the mechanical angle is the surest path though. But it's your choice, all the best.

Thank you. Even a Professor at UCF asked me to apply for the PhD Mechanical Engineering program because they had better funding.

I would consider it.

Let me answer to the best of my knowledge

1. Yes you can, when you log in to the portal you will see the request emergency date option. But you will need to attach your SEVIS, DS-160 and I20 docs
2. Yes, your SEVIS must be paid
3. No you can't. Get someone in the US to assist you or contact these VESTI guys.
4. It is non-refundable. However, SEVIS is valid for a year, so you can keep using same SEVIS to reapply for the space of one year.

The account statement you are carrying must be the one of your sponsor.

If you are sponsoring yourself, carry your own account.

If your sister is the sponsor, carry hers.

So whoever has the 'money' and whoever's account the money is in, is your sponsor

1. Yes, you can reschedule your visa appointment to an earlier date (Don't reschedule till you get a preferred date because there's a limit to the number of times you can reschedule with one visa fee.) You just need to keep checking till you get an earlier date. It's good that you want to join a date search group, that way you wouldn't have to check more than the allowed number of times per day. If you still don't get an earlier appointment, then you can request for an emergency appointment when it is 60 days to your program start date.

2. SEVIS fee payment doesn't affect seeking for regular appointments in any way, you just have to make sure you pay the SEVIS fee some days to your interview at most. However, if you end up needing the emergency appointment, then you'd need to pay the SEVIS fee before you request for it.

3. You can't pay using your local bank account. You can get someone in the US to help you pay, use platforms like Vesti/Pay4Me or use known people here on Nairaland (Walspring and a few others)

4. It is not, but it's valid for a year.

This is to the best of my knowledge. You can wait for others to weigh in too.

On the CGI portal there are two buttons for getting dates: one is for those who have been previously denied a visa in the last 6 months while the other button is for fresh applicants. You can’t book an appointment under the fresh applicant button if you fall under the previously denied category. That would amount to lying and their is a statement to this effect on the CGI portal.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Plannie22: 12:26pm On Jun 04, 2022
Guys, I was denied visa and I am trying to schedule a new appointment at Abuja. My CGI portal is showing that my passport is still at the embassy. What does this mean? I can’t find any date when I click the button that previously denied applicants can use to get a date. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the portal still says that my passport is still at the embassy?
