The total amount in question was around 5billion Naira and I support ASUU to reject the money.
There are certain things that shouldn't be allowed despite the insanity of the government that we find ourselves in.
It is the responsibility of the Government to provide those allocations and they haven't been living up to expectations.
If private individuals should be the one contributing the money that governments are supposed to be allocating to their Ministries, Departments and Parastatals, then in the nearest future, we won't just be calling for contribution to end ASUU strike because there will be lots of other strike that the government will ignore, expecting the public to do their normal donation.
Personally, the rejection is a welcomed development.

This is similar to what I told my colleague a while back when I heard of the said contribution. This is an over reach from Ordinary Ahmed Isah!

In the midst of this economic downturn and where salaries have been stagnant right from the start of the democratic dispensation , lecturers want to earn above everyone else.

If they want that, they should resign and come to the private sector.

If everyone starts going on strike and demanding wage raise/fulfilment of promises and agreement, there won't be a country again. They should know when to stop and take what the Government can offer.

ASUU is so useless......They know they can't achieve anything from the strike this year but still keeping on with it. Election is next year. Why do they have to waste students time this year when they can actually use the strike as threat for every contesting politicians next year...

ASUU Chairman has rejected the money contributed by Berekete Family of Human Rights Radio. Consequently, a direction has been given for the account to be closed and the total money to be refunded to those who donated.

The crowd-funding was initiated by Ahmed Isah, CEO of Human Rights Radio Abuja, to support ASUU in convincing lecturers to suspend the strike.

What is N50 million compared to their demands

When politicians spent tens of billions of naira buying forms for presidency and governorship candidature ; and lost, wasting money.

ASUU is the only sane thing in Nigeria.

Kudos ASUU.

Let it be known, ASUU members are not beggars! They want to hold FG accountable and responsible for quality education. Did Ngerians buy Presidential Forms for them? Did Nigerians donate money for them to buy convoys and luxury mansions, or travel abroad for healthcare? If we spend that money, for how long will Nigerians donate again? Is it sustainable?

Let's think na

So they should collect the money and leave federal government of it primary task..
In future if such should happen again
People will still contribute.
reason what exactly? Of what use is ASUU to Nigerian students?

I am even surprised that there are still students that still falsely believe that ASUU is fighting for students. The fight of ASUU had never at anytime been for the students rather for their purse. If you look through my last post on ASUU before this present one. I said there that government should start looking for ways to scrap the union. In fact most unions have become another political organization. Organization like ASUU, NMA etc should be scrapped immediately

Abi o!
Is the government not the ultimate recipient of revenues generated from state owned universities?

What did they do with the revenue?

So private individuals should saddle the responsibilities of government? ASUU did the right thing because once a precedence is set there's no going back.

These guys spent billions of naira in their primary elections, but our children can afford to stay at home, then private individuals will use their Hard-earned cash to offset government responsibility. Haba, nah, those castigating ASUU should look at the situation nah.

Get your information right before posting it. I listened to the program this morning myself. The 50M was from Akwa Ibon state governor and it was cash. The reason he said he disassociate himself from the cash was because, People might say he came to collect cash from Berekete family. Hence he decided to set the record straight just because of people like you that carries fake news. The account is still open for contributions. Thanks

ASUU didn't reject the money rather, they disassociated themselves from the fund raising. The #50m in question was brought by the governor of Akwa-ibom as his contribution to the intervention. ASUU president and his Vice happens to be in the studio to brief Nigerians on the state of ASUU strike. No money was offered to them. The account was suspended. Ordinary president will get back to Nigerians on Monday or Tuesday as to whether to continue raising the funds or not.

My opinion: the media should stop glorifying headlines.
