ChimaAdeoye:

Quite a pleasure to see that the new governor has taken the fight to the criminals holding Anambra hostage. Who escalated criminal activities to intimidate and overwhelm the new governor Soludo. Their strategy has totally backfired.

I am so happy that instead of being intimidated by criminals, Soludo rose to the challenge and took the fight to their doorsteps. He must not relent in the current momentum if he hopes to win this war. Else they will regroup and stage an even more devastating comeback.

The confiscation of lands and demolition of the buildings and other infrastructure used by criminals and kidnappers to terrorize the state must continue to be implemented with utmost alacrity. Until the massage that crime does not pay will be heard loud and clear by the criminals. This is a very good start by Soludo to flush these criminals out and regain control of the state.

Exactly!

That is how to go about it when criminals test the will of a new government. When Obiano took over, the criminal gangs did the same thing to test his will. He rose to the occasion and drove them out of the state to enable him to implement his plan. Unless you decisively go after criminals, appealing to them to stop kidnapping and crime is a sign of weakness in their eyes.

BREAKING NEWS

Main Market Onitsha is shutting down on Tuesday for Voters Registration.

Thank God they're waking up for once seeing the dynamic politics they're playing on us. This is not as usual we say PVC dosen't count or Sit at home for Ofensala rubbish. Ipob should respect themselves and stay away from causing panic and fear. Not voting and allowing another northerner or Tunubu to emerge won't bring back your messiah Nnamdi Kanu and giving you a fare hearing without an Igbo president. He will riot in jail if you keep fighting this igbo presidency movement. Biafra you've been fighting for 50yrs till now noting, Nigeria has left igboman and you want us to continue this way. Channel your numbers, effort, protests and noise on getting igboman being president. Get your PIC and vote wisely.

Anambra 7th Assembly Marks 3rd Anniversary, Passes More Than 40 Bills, Over 100 Resolutions

By Emma Madu ( ABS News )

As the seventh Anambra State House of Assembly marks its third anniversary today, the Speaker, Right Honourable Uche Okafor said that the state legislature has performed creditably despite challenges.

Speaking to journalists in his office in Awka, Right Honourable Okafor commended the Seventh Assembly lawmakers for recording meaningful developments in their various constituencies in the last three years.

The Speaker, who revealed that the Seventh Assembly has passed more than forty bills and over one hundred people-oriented and development driven resolutions within the three years, attributed the success to the peace and unity of purpose among the lawmakers as well as the collaborative efforts of the staff of the legislature.

He listed some of the bills passed to include open grazing prohibition and ranching establishment Bill, public finance Bill, Anambra Information and Technology Bill and Appropriation Bills among numerous others.

He assured Ndi Anambra that the seventh assembly would continue to enact laws and resolutions, aimed at improving the living condition of the citizenry and advance good governance in the state.

The Speaker on behalf of the lawmakers, expressed sadness over the death of one of them, Honourable Okechukwu Okoye, who was murdered by unknown gunmen, noting that his death was the reason the house decided not to celebrate its third anniversary as a mark of respect.

Right Honourable Okafor enjoined Ndi Anambra to continue to pray for the peace and progress of the state and shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the state.

Anambra Homeland Affairs Commissioner, Anarah Restates Govt Resolve To Restore Effective Security Network

The Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Mr. Chikodi Anarah has restated the state government’s commitment towards restoring effective security network across the state.

Mr. Anara, who made the statement when communities from Awka North Local Government Area paid him a courtesy visit in Awka, said his appointment calls for more work and greater dedication to duty.

While promising to do his best in accordance with Governor Soludo's vision of making Anambra State a liveable smart city, Commissioner Anara further explained that the Ministry of Homeland Affairs is incharge of security and other forms of welfare and protection of people's life and property across the state.

Earlier, the leader of the group, Chief Shedrack Anakwue, who described the appointment as well deserved, expressed the hope that the Commissioner will deploy his wealth of experience and skills garnered over the years in the service of the state.

Chief Anakwue noted that the appointment is for the entire people of Awka North, as it gave them a sense of inclusion.

Thirty-two states in Nigeria, including Rivers and Kaduna, did not attract any foreign investments in the first quarter of 2022, The PUNCH has learnt.

A report by the National Bureau of Statistics shows that only Lagos, Oyo, Katsina, Anambra states, and the Federal Capital Territory attracted investment during the period.

According to the NBS’ Nigerian Capital Importation (Q1 2022), the total value of capital imported into Nigeria in the first quarter of 2022 stood at $1.6bn from $2.2bn in the preceding quarter, showing a decrease of 28.09 per cent.

When compared to the corresponding quarter of 2021, capital importation decreased by 17.46 per cent from $1.9bn.

The largest amount of capital importation by type was received through portfolio investment, which accounted for 60.87 per cent ($957.58m). This was followed by Other Investment with 29.28 per cent ($460.59m) while Foreign Direct Investment accounted for 9.85 per cent ($154.97m) of total capital imported in Q1 2022.

By destination of investment, Lagos State remained the top destination in Q1 with $1.1bn accounting for 71.16 per cent of total capital investment into Nigeria. This was followed by investment into Abuja (FCT), valued at $446.8m(28.40 per cent).

Anambra Oyo and Katsina states followed, with each raking in $4.1m, $2m and $700,000, respectively.

On the other hand, Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna and Kebbi states failed to attract any foreign investments during the period under review.

Others are Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Kano, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states.

Categorisation of total capital investment by bank shows that Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria ranked highest in Q1 with $543.20m (34.53 per cent). This was followed by Citi Bank Nigeria Limited with $439.03m(27.91 per cent) and Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc with $251.52 (15.99 per cent).

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, an ECOWAS Common Investment Market consultant, Professor Jonathan Aremu, said, “It’s simple. It’s because they don’t have the attracting factors. The factors that attract foreign investment are not available in those 31 states. One thing about investment is that it is crisis shy. Investment doesn’t go to places where there are crisis. Why? Because investors want stability and predictability of their investments, particularly, having returns on their investments.

“When an economy is witnessing what we are witnessing currently, despite the investment potentials of that kind of economy, investors will wait and see whether the factors that can guarantee predictable and sustainable investments will finally be available.”

He added that the twin factors of a good investment climate as well as a good perception of that climate would have to be present for investors to develop the confidence to bring investments into the country.

Similarly, the Deputy-President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gabriel Idahosa, cited factors such as insecurity and the economic crisis experienced in Nigeria in recent years as major reasons why investors may not consider Nigeria the best possible destination.

Idahosa said, “We know what to do. We simply have refused to do it. We know that we should have put in place a state police system around this country maybe five or 10 years back, before Boko Haram became a monster. If we had state police in Borno State when Boko Haram was a very small, tiny group of ruffians creating local problems, perhaps we never would have heard of Boko Haram.

“Generally, the police system should be taken out of the Exclusive list; so we can have state police, and municipal police, just like we have in other federations. The New York Police Department has a budget that is probably higher than the Nigerian Police. Same thing with the Los Angeles Police Department. We know what to do, it’s just the political confidence to do it.”

What is stopping them from following Ariaria or Alaba closing down for P.V.C. with the massive support from non igbos, plus ours join. Let me hear INEC will be afraid to rig it owning to the massive count in favour of Peter Obi. Let's try this time and see if we can't get it and develop our region as others did for centuries. Unless we don't my to see Onitsha port, Oguta port function, drain of river naija, increase our federal allocation as we receive peanut in respect to our populations as Peter said when he was a governor. Dualise our federal roads and bring federal presence in the East. Kanu realised etc. Ipob are fools in short for thinking not voting will bring u Biafra or kanu.

Foreign investors ignored 24 states as the value of capital importation into Nigeria fell by 30.78 percent to $6.7 billion in 2021 from $9.68 billion in 2020.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed this in its latest Nigerian Capital Importation report for the four quarters of 2021.

Of the 24 states, ten also failed to attract foreign investments in the last three years.

These states are Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.

States that attracted foreign investments in 2021 include Lagos ($5.8 billion), Abuja ($833.4 million) Osun ($29.9 million), Anambra ($4.7 million), Kano ($2.55 million), Oyo ($2.0 million) and Ogun ($1.06 million).

Akwa Ibom follows with $0.74 million, Ekiti ($0.50 million), Kwara ($0.23) million and Abia ($0.01 million), while Rivers and Delta had a $1.0 million investment each in 2021.

Get your PIC and vote wisely.
true talk... would they agree on this. They've been brainwashed
