So how does an OPV which is considered lower than a corvette in armament and performance become a light frigate?

Modularity of the OPV does not automatically make it more lethal to suddenly become a light frigate.

Never has the manufacturer and end-user referred to the OPV as a light frigate. I'm trying to understand where you brought thr nomenclature from?
He brought it from a site usually kept away from sunlight.

Well depends in my opinion

In contested air space (peer to peer conflicts) standalone, ucavs will/might struggle but it doesn't not mean that they won't be effective at all bec as usual tactics , support elements etc will play a role to determine effectiveness

But as part of a composite group with manned assets effectiveness will be more imo , ie manned unmanned grouping will enable them to draw from the strengths of each other

Though with time into future as ucavs start leveraging new technologies like ability to operate autonomously, self aware AI enabled swarming etc their capabilities will to an extent rival those of manned aircrafts , but not replace imo

At tactical level man portable drones r welcomed asset they provide a vertical envelop to the infantry previously not available

If uavs and artillery can be incorporated together, it will be great. Like for example in the ukro-russo war, look at the cheap orlan-10 and the roles it's presently playing in the war; it doesn't have those fancy things like americans reapers drones but russo made full use of the cheap drone in this war. I feel honestly that ukraine didn't use bayraktar drones to it's full potential

They recognize africa now as a sleeping giant, no-one looked at our side until the world was shaken; now usa is giving us sweet weapon deal but what about our human rights that they claimed before, remembering our travails for "turbo-prop" aircrafts with Obama administration before trump made the deal not even a f-16 or f-35.The world is more than China, India, Europe and North America, not seeing any signs of cancer here though atleast he is not fully bald or shaven here but I must say, he is an eloquent speaker. After this european crisis bet that trade will return back to normal with Russia and Europe in the shadows before it comes to light little by little

Classification varies in Navies. Performance relative between Corvette and OPV is subjective as the latter, permit me to say is more "sea friendly" for lack of a better word, more cost effective especially in peace time making it a darling of Navies. Here again I repeat its modular design makes it in Nigerian strategic Naval plans a "Light Frigate" or if you must a "Missile Vessel" (they are all vessels anyway) - nomenclature which varies is based mostly on speed, size, armaments, weapons systems & technology etc) primarily dedicated to Anti-Surface Warfare & Anti-Air Warfare.

As per current official NN Naval plans we haven't seen clear need for Corvettes rather OPVs, Frigates, LSTs, H-vessels & submarines.

The incoming new vessels is not the only new modular designed ship been ordered. Strategically military planners in Abuja plan for a hybrid warfare & decision advantages where Hard Assets can be game changing multiplier effects in critical performance areas hence as you would read in this purchase not all information about its systems are divulged both from manufacturer and the end user.

And I must state your intellectual aplomb is a welcome development on a platform with majority myopi.c, i.ll-mannere.d ignorant.s. I will never dignify i.llteracy rather eradicate it.

Covert1 does not respond to nonsens.e so I don't even see it. There are moniker.s I'm sworn never to read again and have never again so those writing nonsens.e humor me.

Please note: I repeat again, manufacturers produce to meet specific requirements of the customer and being weapons most guidance informations are kept under wraps because surprise is an element of warfare anyday.

Lionel, have you seen this?

The original design layout marketed by Dearsan features a 76mm Leonardo Super Rapid Gun on the bow, a 40mm OTO Marlin 40 on the rear superstructure, two 12.7 mm remote weapon stations (RWS), two manned 12.7 mm HMGs and 2x2 MANPADS stations along with the required radar and sensors, yet Nigeria has opted for a different armament suite for its two ships.[7]

In fact, the only weapons system on Nigeria's OPV 76s not sourced from Turkey is the 40mm OTO Marlin 40, which replaces the 76mm gun otherwise found on the bow. The Marlin 40 position on the rear superstructure is replaced by a 25mm Aselsan STOP RWS while three 12.7mm Aselsan STAMP RWS replace the MANPADS stations. Several manned machine guns complete the armament suite. Other Aselsan products on the ship include a MAR-D 3D search radar, an Alper LPI navigation radar and a DenizGözü-AHTAPOT (Sea Eye-Octopus) EO/IR sensor system. [8]

As per drones long story short the Russians have made very good use of lasers though under reported and correctly so because the Russians try as much as possible to keep their tricks in the bag just like their befuddled doctrine in this war which have put classroom-textbook military strategy in redundancy.

Another effective Russian element in this war is electronic countermeasures which despite all western help basically makes the Ukrainians target practice in a war they can't win not today not tomorrow. It was a mistake. A loosing war.

interesting....however I'm not sure how accurate this is... Last I saw SA was around $3 billion, Nigeria just over $2billion, Morroco $6.1 billion, Egypt $7.4 billion and Algeria $13.9 billion..... These budgets are directly from each countries treasuries

ISR element has always been part of artillery since WW1 ( same with armour )

Artillery batteries have had aviation units allocated to them for spotting, fire direction, fire correction, BDA etc

What the drones bring into play when deployed in support of artillery is - reduced cost, high volume of ISR and elimination of risk to pilots

So with time drones will more or less replace the manned platforms in support of ISR for artillery

Cant comment of bayraktar , no info with me regarding same

That's why there's plans for an unmanned Terminator. Some yrs ago the Russians had plans to experiment inducting them with tank units but Idk more.

Yes

As far as i know this trend is global ie man unmanned grouping of assets

Not only in air but ground also, into the future even surface (water) and subsurface such composite grouping will happen

You cover a larger area doing this.

You also avoid the risk of getting shot down.

I've always wanted to see the impact of that technique, giving this video evidence, it makes a lot of sense.

Funny how spending works in South-Africa. The sort of spending that grounds more than 80% of your Gripen fleet, kills of your Patria IFV and can afford to get you one small boat in 10 years.
