debola27:Why are there "scrub nurses" in the theatre if it is never anybody else's duty to clean up after d doctor? What is their job? What is the job of the attendants attached to the wards? Agreed nurses are colleagues to doctors but THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A LEADER IN EVERY TEAM which in this case is the doctor. A ship which doesn't have a captain will sink or run aground. Patients come to the hospital to see d doctor not nurses, not lab scientists not pharmacists. Drs now decide, you should go to the ward, you should go to the lab,you should go to the pharmacy. If a patient doesn't make it,nobody blames the nurse, nobody blames the lab scientist cos they all claim they carry out the instructions of the doctor, so how can they be running shoulders with Drs claiming equal? A lot of times Patients come to hospitals with complaints, they're reassured and sent home without any test or drug, that shows you the hospital is centered on doctors and patients. Nigeria is a strange place shaa |

Nigerian Doctors can be funny at times. How does someone discard your sharps for you. Nigerian nurses are funnier, how can you become a police officer because of Johesu. Dentist are probably the funniest. They go into hiding when Doctors Bleep up. When Doctors ask for pay increase the jump out of nowhere claiming to be medical doctors. Make them just sell Nigeria health sector for e-bay or Amazon prime |

Emperordynasty:I swear there are people called porters at the emergency and theatres, whonare responsible for carrying all waste outside, so afr they have already been well disposed. And looking at the argument at those saying you dispose what you use, that means doctors should be carrying all these waste to the incinerator for final disposal then. Though, I'm not surprised they are mostly nurses, and they even left the partbof locking someone up. |

HaneefahRN:Incident report does not cause sack, hope you know. He/she will only be asked to do retraining and reflection. A nurse detaining a doctor, and being told by her matrons and other to open the gate and she refuses will both trigger instant suspension, as well as police involvement. Not to talk about her unprofessional shouting. Nigeria can be better, if we are all ready to stick with the truth. Nigerian Doctors, nurses, even any health-care worker need retraining. Only God save patients in Naija. |

There is no part of Civil Service Rules that state Doctor's are Nurse's boss.... Both are different healthcare field. No one is boss over the other. Otunbakayce: |

mamajaz:So I'm not in dispute of that. My dad was a General Surgeon in a very rural setting. Multiple rural settings in fact and he only trusted sterilisation and cleanup that he had done. I'm fully in support of cleaning up after oneself as a medical practitioner. And I see where the Matron is coming from. My question was more about the Matron picking on a female HO. I believe I heard that there was a Reg and Senior Reg for the procedure. Why did she not lock them up and insist they clean up. Why did she go after a lowly house job doc who for all intents and purposes is an intern and probably does not know her left from her right? |

lagosrd:Those thick bottomed and shapeless matrons just sit in the nursing bay from morning to afternoon doing nothing but gossiping about how an 'ordinary' house officer earns so so. And they're the ones who indoctrinate d younger ones on how to perennially be rude to doctors. Nothing de do other than harass patients ,patients relatives and the attendants working under them. That is why 99% of them are morbidly obese cos they do next to nothing while every doctor is on his foot from the time you enter your house till when you leave. |

ukaface:You are right to say that the ladies acted based on professional rules but there are instances rules are bent on common sense. Even at the court of law rules are bent by the justice. There are times 6 years jail time crimes are given a year depending on what led to the crime. Example: a hopeless hungry orphan stealing food. He committed the crime but for survival. Many lives have been lost to rigidity of people at the helms of affairs simply because of some rules they should use their common sense to apply. For instance robbers struck at an area and the victim was rushed to the hospital the doctor heard that it was true the incident happened but declined to treat the victim until police report is obtained by the good Samaritan. Before theyld process police report the victim gave up. The doctor is stupid observing a stupid rule. |

ukaface:I guess you are an angry nurse and I understand that. But you are letting your anger cloud your judgement. So let me expantiate. First, I did not mention or imply in any way that nurses should clean up after the doctor. Instead, I said such jobs should be given a role, a cleaner to handle it. The reason is simple. After a session, the team might probably be too tired to start cleaning and what if they lost the patient? they might not even have it in them to start cleaning at that moment. Such scenerios means that someone else should be available to take care of the cleaning. It could be a cleaner trained specifically for that role or a student nurse or a nurse but who has been briefed and accepted that that will be her role. But in all cases, someone else ought to handle the role. Secondly, you talk about doctors having pride, but you are the doing shouting upandan on how no one should be able to give you directives on this or that. Please rest. Just as you said, doctors and nurses have different roles. If they do then, there should be someone whose role it will be to clean up after every session just as it is in the library whose role it is to return books to the shelves. Thirdly, It is wrong to hear a medical practitioner saying that they should have left the equipments until a later time. Says a lot about your work ethics which I am willing to let slide because again, I believe your percieved anger is clouding your judgement. Fourthly, What that nurse did was totally wrong and should be punished for it. It was not her role to clean up after the doctor, neither was it her role to enforce the clean up. Yet she took it upon herself to lock the doctor up. Please, while fighting for equality, let's learn to keep our emotions aside and be able to differentiate wrong from right, else you become the very monster you are trying to fight. Yes, it is wrong to insurbodinate nurses, but what this nurse did is totally wrong and punishing her for her wrong is not victimizing nurses. Oh, btw, I am in benue college of health sciences. |

sgtponzihater1:Thank you for your opinion which I can't argue with cos e make sense. The training and reflection is good because then you know you did wrong and prevent further episodes. Like I said Nigeria is a mad house. These kind of issues should not even happen because everyone should know their duty and respect other professionals they work with. All these yeye rivalry, while putting patient care on side line. |
