I being a business owner trading intangible products (services) for money, it becomes difficult for the Govt to task such.

So I most times use my discretion to pay, yet I was told what I paid for 3 years wasn't enough just because the project is on the island. (The tax boss in one of their mainland offices said so).

The truth is that most businesses in Nigeria don’t get their taxes right because of so many informal ( not illegal) transactions. A certified tax person or firm can help you get it straightened out and no one would challenge it when presented anywhere, even for building approval.
But Nigeria factor would still play out before anything is approved.

Who knows how Solar sump pump works for borehole? I mean a stand alone solar setup just for the borehole.
Can the existing one be replaced with solar sump because I want to keep the borehole running without the extra expenses of petrol for generator since I am not there.

What are the disadvantages, in terms of cost and maintenance. Is it even worth doing?

That's why I said some salary earners should be able to clear that hurdle if what they paid as taxes correspond with what they're building.

You can buy a solar submersible pump for your borehole and there is no need of electricity in pumping anymore. But you will have to install floating switch for automatic switch OFF and ON the pump.

Also you can install a solar panel for tye existing submersible pump. It will require the horse power of your pump to calculate the number of panels to be installed.

Just for clarity, did you mean your tax clearance from Delta state was what you used when Lagos State asked you to pay a tax of 2.5m? Is tax clearance from other states acceptable by Lagos state during the building approval process?

Yes. By law you don’t pay double income taxes. If you don’t work in Lagos you are not supposed to pay taxes in Lagos. Don’t forget that there are other significant charges during the process that are not income tax. I will encourage anyone to fight their case if they paid their correct taxes in other states. Maybe if the value of tax you paid is small sha o they might frown at it. For me I had paid taxes to Lagos for 15 years before then even for a period when I wasn’t working in Nigeria so they really couldn’t complain.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I believe this thinking is an illegality. What if I had that money saved up since 10 years ago. So far as I paid appropriate taxes on my verifiable income from last year, especially PAYE, it is no one’s business to look at the house I want to build.
