You just dey know Ni,
This is how truecaller works:
Immediately you install it, it will request for permission to manage your calls, access your phone book, call records, etc. Which I am very sure you will grant it.
Next it will upload all your contacts to their server to build their database, it will compare the the phone number you use in saving it with that of other users who might have shared it with them and present it with the name of the Most saved name.
I am just amazed with the number of information they have, they know who you call most and who calls you most. It's an ultimate spy tools.

A lot of people are actually ignorant about these things. It is quite pathetic.

It's not as if you Google steal your info ,I think you are one that input your info to them,
Yes they might use the data to serve you ,but also they used for malicious purpose ,you might not know because all this is not reavealed in the normal web

Bro everything is open to the public. You can use other browsers, you can manage how much of your info they have. What malicious purpose is there? Google is a publicly traded entity and they have terms and conditions.

You can learn SEO to understand how search engines work, or take AI/ML lessons to understand understand how the info they harvest from users are being used.

Everything is open for understanding. Google doesn't hide it, you don't expect them to go around teaching even people how it works. It's like blaming car manufacturers for not teaching drivers how the car engine works with other parts of the car to enable driving

Truecaller is a malicious app and it's mainly Nigerians that are using it. I remember when one werey presidential Aid said they'd share phone to people and Nigerians were fuming, I was like shey na same people wey dey give their data to Truecaller and gbwhatsap dey fear to have the govt monitor them??

Oga Truecaller and google are not the same. You can delete your info from Google and clear your data, can you clear the data of your contacts that Truecaller has taken??

My main point!! Truecaller has a backdoor grim where they steal users data. Stop comparing to Google

Now you rest, I get energy.

Which app is not a spy tool?

Facebook and Google are the biggest spy tools.

But we're still talking about common Truecaller.

Lol, don't mind them. People who use chrome, facebook and other google services are complaining of spying. The truth is some apps will definitely ask for permission to access some things on your phone in other to serve its' purpose but they are not meant to disclose your personal details. Whatsapp also have access to his camera, media and phonebook but he is here complaining of truecaller.

What are you talking about?? How does this correlate to your comparison of true caller to Android. Abeg shift, Google (Child company of Alphabet) is a 1.4 trillion dollar business. Listen to yourself
oga listen, if you detest spy apps don't use Google. It is the most notorious of them all.

Story. In case you don't know, a data harvester can easily read and harvest the data packages transmitted on a specific range of network mast. With this, calls, texts and location can be easily accessed.

Does that stop criminals from using phones?? Does that mean network providers are spy apps

grin

it's like you guys don't get it. Truecaller is simply True caller. It's an app that helps you identify who's truly calling with an unknown number, that's the job of the app. It sources for information of the caller from all places where such number has been saved or registered with. They don't have such information without you giving them access.

It's simple, when you give them permission to manage your contact, they synchronize your contact list to their database from where they run checks on incoming calls that match the contacts on their database.

It is just annoying how someone can be this ignorant.

Mr Af0nja,they just explained to you that Google and android is the biggest spyware in the world and you are arguing.

Google owns android, they know your location, they track every activities on your phone, they even suggest stuff for you by tracking your browser activities.

How won't they be worth a trillion dollar company

I'll believe this...so there's this app I do go to wile away time....so in other to earn coins..you watch some short video ad.
Do you know that there was this particular ad I watched, I clicked to it then later exit.

But to my greatest surprise.. when I entered Facebook.. suddenly this advert kept coming up.
I kept wondering how Facebook knew I was interested in that service even when I was feeling reluctant about registering on the site.

That was when I realised that these guys are really spying on us.
These days I'm always careful which app I grant permission to my phone.

And who told you I don't know that Google owns android You're the big ignorant here because google has privacy terms that you agree on before use.

Comparing the activities of Google to the activities of True caller just shows how shallow your thinking faculty is. It's not that you don't know the truth, it's just that you prefer to be a blocked brain. Iti komkom
Listen to the people correcting you bros.
Any app you grant access/installed on your phone is a potential spyware and google (Android) tops the list of such apps. Google knows more about you than even this true caller you’re worried about. Plus I see nothing wrong with an app showing me the most popular name with which most people save someone’s name with and checkmating frauds as a result. We complain too much about frivolities abandoning bigger issues. What an irony grin, you were even calling someone a blockhead. You’re so worried about privacy and you are using an android phone cheesy

Yeah you got it. They will start pushing familiar adverts to your field and you would be surprised and start wondering how Facebook got to know that you just made a search on a particular grocery on jumia or jiji using google search o cheesy. So the bottom line is that if you care about privacy, then don’t use an android phone because these apps will be useless without you granting them access.

Stop comparing the activities of an app to that of a platform. Google owns Android, they have the right to use your information to improve services and serve you and advertisers. This is business.

Using an Android phone has nothing to do with level of privacy. You can always control the amount of your info they have. Fyi, Truecaller also has an IOS version.

Again, comparing android to Truecaller is the dumbest thing in this tech era.

If you think iOS is more privacy conscious than android then should I burst your bubble that Google pays them billions of dollars annually to stop them from building their own search engine

If apple starts a search engine today, trust me your privacy bruhaha will be dead.

Anyways can someone explain how true caller knows that a call is coming in? They notify you and before you know phone go day ring?

My guess would be that it would only happen if the person use true caller app to make the call so when they hit dial true caller would send you a notification that someone tried to call in and then the call would finally come in.
