I think what killed football from what it use to be was the creation of academy teams around the world, back then scouts go to streets to scout for talents.

The introduction of football academy around the world means there's less time to go to the street to scout players (though they still scouts but not like it use to be), it means tactics becomes the order of the game. As a player you must know when to dribble, make a pass, make a run, take shots etc, (though tactics has always been part of the game) but we see less entertainment like it use to be. We don't see people make as many leg overs like we use to cos the game is more tactical.

I must also remind you that these academy we hear about are not usually cheap, which means the rich can mostly afford it knowing fully well what their wards stands to gain afterwards.

This days players are groomed with tactics but in my opinion, very few of them have those natural talent.

Year 2002 was the year I stopped supporting the Super Eagles.


It was so emotional for me. Nigeria was leading Sweden 1-0, we had thought we would win, only for Eric Larsson to score two goals...


I did not eat for the rest of the day, I felt like crying. It was like when a man jilted his girlfriend. I was practically heart-broken.


Since then, I said to myself, this Super Eagles are not worth it's salt. They disappoint when you least expect.


I have moved on now.

Far from it. Ronaldinho wasn't part of the France 98 squad. He progressed from the U-17 team in 1997, then onto the U-20 squad where he featured in Nigeria 1999.
His first senior tournament for the Selecao was the Copa America in 1999.
2002 was his first senior world cup and not 1998.
