Ok ooo, no need to argue with you, but the fact remains that I don't have a house help neither do my two neighbors and I have been doing just fine, my first daughter who's 9+ is already washing plates and can also sweep and arrange their room, my second is also learning fast, infact am looking forward to my retirement from house chores in the nearest future.
My parents didn't have a househelp for the most part either but that don't change the fact that about 50% of the families in my community back then had them, and that they seem to have become even more common place now. undecided

But I still maintain that here in warri there are a lot of people who wash and clean three times a week for a fee, even my mum in Port Harcourt has one, there's a lady in my street who does it for a living she wash and clean people's houses two or three times a week.

Cleaning jobs dey for sure. No question, and even university students take advantage of them on campus. I recall seeing a lot of them back when I was in college in Nigeria. undecided

A lot of women who have house helps do so because the men don't help out and they also work, a former colleague of mine who came visiting after I had my second child said she admired the way my husband helps me that her husband will never lift a pin, even to get water to drink somebody must bring it and when she complained his reply was that's why you have a house help.

That too and the fact that it is viewed as a sort of norm or some sort of status symbol to have one of those. I know some folks whose children are all grown - 12 and above - yet they still keep househelps. undecided

That's exactly what they are looking for but men in this category are rare
Women should start raising their sons to be the kind of husbands tht would have loved to marry.

This will help the next generation.

Please tell them. Many of them typing with speed and authority whereas they don't know the country.

My question is: How do Americans take care of children 0-14 months old, on a day to day basis. (There are 330m Americans in the US, at least 90m families). How? The Chinese as well? Can Nigerians explain?

Do all them have nannies, baby sitters? From what time to which time daily? All of them? To what extent could Nigeria copy that. Bc upon all, America remains the most productive nation with $76,000 per capita.

We must stop Nigerians from seizing people's 12y olds. Children must leave with their parents till at least 18y. Not where some seemingly good looking person will be making the child sleep on kitchen floor. They profit nothing by staying with you. They were feeding and schooling before they came to your place.
Kobo is right. Only the wealthy or upper middle class can afford maid, au pairs, housekeepers and nannies. Babysitters are only used occassionally, maybe when the parents need to be out and can't leave the kids by themselves. These services are super expensive and they are so many additional costs like healthcare.
Some lower class women, mostly single mothers, sometimes have arrangements with neighbours where they leave the kids to go to work, and they pay the woman for the hours they are away. But it is way cheaper than employing someone full time and live in like we do in nigeria.
Also, abroad, there are some benefits the stay at home mum can collect from the government. So the couple can and often choose to let the woman stay home and raise the kids. Show me a nigerian wife, except the super rich, that can stay home to raise the children. 2 income families are the norm in nigeria.
Thirdly, nigerian men do not lift a finger to help out. Let his wife tell him to help take out the trash and put it outside for collection if she no go collect.
The truth is, labour is cheap in nigeria and unregulated. There are no social safety nets for young couples who have to resort to extra help to enable both of them go out to work.
Another thing, which we don't like to say, is that the cheap labour has made us nigerians somewhat lazy. We hire people for jobs around the house that we don't want to do. In the UK I learnt to be my own plumber, electrician, carpenter, gardener. These guys are super expensive, unlike in nigeria. DIY is a huge industry, especially in the US, and there are all manner of tools to help a guy be a handyman around his home. In fact, a tool shed or a space in the garage to store tools, is a very common part of american homes.
