Ruby to me is a much better built framework than nodejs and it's really common with American firms.

Ruby when compared to Java nko ?
Re: Ruby On Rails Or Node.js by afuye(m): 9:00am On Jul 10, 2022
The comparison is bad!!!!

Dont compare a ruby framework called ruby on rails with a javascript runtime engine which nodejs is. The comparison no go at all.

Compare ruby on rails as a ruby framework with a nodejs framework like Nestjs that has batteries included as well

If you're aiming for remote jobs, its best to go for Ruby. That's because most startups in the USA and Australia use Ruby.

If you have sights on local jobs, please do yourself good and pick Node.js

The baseline is that both are good. But you have a much better likelihood of landing a $24k or $30k offer in the USA with ruby than Node.

Stick to one, and give in your best.

Heres one secrete, when you apply to jobs everyone else is seeing, your chances are like 10%. You need to leverage the unpopular options. And early applications are very important.

I haven't seen this site before. I usually use LinkedIn and indeed. Hmmm can you make a nairaland post and post some of these job sites maybe 10 to 15 of them. There has been a lot of where do we find jobs recently.

I guess that will help. I mostly find them on repositories on Github.

Let's see how it goes.

OP. I vote for nodejs. I only hear about Ruby in the US. Might not be wise putting your eggs in one basket(the US). Nodejs gives you more options

The jobs posts seems unreal. I have never seen that many Flutter jobs in one place, not even LinkedIn

Might apply for a couple just see if I get a reply

They are low end jobs. They get filled fast, and the companies use them to get cheap labour.

You said it's not real? cheesy well, that's why I love going after the coded sites that are "unreal"

Most of those jobs average 2k USD. Is that even cheap for Eastern Europe?

Nigerians would jump on those jobs in a heart beat.

Why would a company advertise on coded sites where their job placement might not even get seen instead of the big boys?

It's not coded. Coded in this sense for Nigerians. That site has always been in my Google advert for more than a year.

Besides, if you narrow the search to junior developer, you'd see it's 90% from $700 to $1500.

It's for Poland. There's much competition for local employers there because most polish people are taking other remote jobs that pay better, and the advent of top firms has given an advantage to Europeans.

So an average polish developer will look for better options.

Just gotta love the tech market. If only all markets were this global

The pay for juniors are what some seniors here earn. $1000(605k) would blow any juniors mind.

Western Europe and North America is the goal though. Sadly most jobs are country locked(even though remote).
You got any jobs sites for the goldmines?

Western European jobs that come with Good pay is backed by standardized DSA test.

I'm talking about jobs that pay $40k and above for Africans included. What we don't notice is, if you have a leetcode medium knowledge as an African, your chances of getting such jobs is 50-70%, which is an awesome number. That's because Europeans and North Americans would want to go after the $90k and above considering their location.

For such jobs, Linkedin connections with recruiters, monster, indeed etc are the best bet.

But nothing beats referral any day anytime.

Another trick is to check the careers page of most of these companies. At least the ones in the US/CAN and EU. So for example I follow Canonical (“makers” of Ubuntu Linux). I always check heir careers page at least once a week just to stay abreast of the openings they have and their requirements. I do the same for Hotjar, Slack, BitWarden, LastPass

DSA for a $40k job seems unfair with the current shortage they have.
This recurrent theme about DSA bothers me because on one end, they also expect a good grasp of certain tools and code quality.

So many red herring with this job of a thing

The limitations are because of their tax rules. If they hire you as an employee here in Nigeria, they would have to set up a business entity in Nigeria and pay income tax to the Nigerian government. Doing all of that is very expensive as they would need to hire lawyers and accountants conversant with all of that. So the best they do is to hire you as an independent contractor (also called 1099). That way you are a supplier to them and they are not going to be responsible for any default in your end.

DSA is a fundamental knowledge every profound programmer is meant to know.

The tools we use are built with complex Algorithms. Most tools used at FAANG firms and the likes is in-house built. So ideally, an engineer that can "design" such is needed, that's where DSA test come into play.

When you take tax and other expenses out for people earning $150k in San Francisco, most won't have $30k as savings, minus bonus.

So for am African, $40k is same as earning $100k in USA

Fact! America will pay you amounts that European companies will fear to offer. In that America sef make your get employer from San Francisco. Those ones are lunatics. Dem dey pay like say dollar get expiry date. To get them to hire person an him be the problem. Any employer for California or New York city na highest
