DSA: Data structure & algorithm
Alg: Algorithms
FAANG: typically refers to the US 'big Tech', which is 'fluid (that is, changes with time). The likes of your Meta (META) (formerly Facebook), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX); and Alphabet (GOOG) (formerly Google)
JS: JavaScript
Full stack: the entirety of a site or app covering front and back end architecture. Hence a full stack web developer develops both client and server software utilising a variety of languages and libraries/frameworks

The limitations are because of their tax rules. If they hire you as an employee here in Nigeria, they would have to set up a business entity in Nigeria and pay income tax to the Nigerian government. Doing all of that is very expensive as they would need to hire lawyers and accountants conversant with all of that. So the best they do is to hire you as an independent contractor (also called 1099). That way you are a supplier to them and they are not going to be responsible for any default in your end.

DSA is a fundamental knowledge every profound programmer is meant to know.

The tools we use are built with complex Algorithms. Most tools used at FAANG firms and the likes is in-house built. So ideally, an engineer that can "design" such is needed, that's where DSA test come into play.

When you take tax and other expenses out for people earning $150k in San Francisco, most won't have $30k as savings, minus bonus.

So for am African, $40k is same as earning $100k in USA

Having studied a bit of DSA, I could see the usefulness for large user base but most companies barely scale that much. Everybody won't build the next TikTok or Instagram or work in FAANG

Most employers that go on Reddit are already set to hire as 1099. They are mostly small startups looking for people active in whatever subs that talks about the role they want to hire for. And mostly from SF or California for me. My first remote job was from Reddit. From application to starting the job took like two weeks. BUT, I was already active for a few months on several subs related to the role. Reddit is NOT a job board, but personally for me I have found success there. Others may have a different experience.

Thats why the big bucks is meant for the "big boys" in the game.

For DSA in smaller firms, it's a fair way to rate programming proficiency across boarders and background. Just as GRE and GMAT is used to give third world country students a chance.

Even if you've seen a question before on leetcode, how to solve the problem, and react to possible edge cases brought by the interviews says a lot on your programming proficiency. So it's a fair game for equal chance.

I'm taking IT Support Specialization by Google from coursera online. With that, when done I could say I'm a IT Support Specialist. I'm in course 4 of the specialization (sysadmin course).
My only worries is that knowledge isn't enough to get the job done application of knowledge is what is needed.
