Re: Php Or Node Js by bunnaes: 11:11am On Jul 30
arejibadz:You can learn both in less than 6months.
I started with PHP before I added nodejs and react.

Re: Php Or Node Js by micodon(m): 3:33pm On Jul 30
There's no "best" language. Use the best tool for the job.
Learn at least 4. Simple guide:
1. Learn at least one compiled language (Golang, Rust, C#, Java, Scala etc)
3. Learn Node (it's not a language, it's an environment
4. Learn PHP

micodon:I am almost done with the front end track and wanted picking up java for the backend but was advised by a senior developer against that.
Re: Php Or Node Js by micodon(m): 6:32pm On Jul 30
Why did he advise against that?
Re: Php Or Node Js by tensazangetsu20(m): 6:35pm On Jul 30
micodon:He said most companies were dropping it. Plus I hardly see java requirements in startups, mid level or freelancing jobs. He advised PHP and nodejs.
Re: Php Or Node Js by micodon(m): 6:37pm On Jul 30
That's not reason enough to advise against it. I advice you learn Golang, though
Re: Php Or Node Js by tensazangetsu20(m): 6:41pm On Jul 30
micodon:Thanks. Golang is becoming popular.
Re: Php Or Node Js by Johnmattee(m): 6:25am On Jul 31

I don't think this statement is correct. A lot of people still use Laravel.
In fact, the new Codeigniter 4 is more like a copy of Laravel with lots of similar stuffs.
I actually created a thread about it here:
Codeigniter isn't dead. A lot of people use it day by day.
It is also the easiest framework to understand for beginners, so many PHP beginners start with it.
If it's dead, there won't be version 3 and version 4.
Re: Php Or Node Js by Johnmattee(m): 11:38am On Jul 31
teamoneline:I resonate with you, job market is very important to me if you are considering job market, PHP still rules.
Re: Php Or Node Js by Taofeekdboy(m): 3:00pm On Jul 31
teamoneline:so because you couldn't find django jobs means you are wasting your time learning one language, what happen when you start learning PHP and you start finding python or django jobs. New startups are using Nodejs, Python and other languages apart from PHP now. Tho it is hard to find django jobs in Nigeria but here, Nodejs, Python e.t.c are very common.
Re: Php Or Node Js by teamoneline: 4:14pm On Jul 31

Re: Php Or Node Js by bet9ja(m): 9:04pm On Jul 31
I will advise you to learn both. Try to integrate Mongo db while learning node js. However, be careful with Node, you may fell in-love with it.
Re: Php Or Node Js by Yomiie: 11:17pm On Jul 31
teamoneline:. Do not learn programming language for the sole purpose of getting job, you must have passion for it. The passion will keep you going when you are frustrated with some things. Learning programming language takes time. Find something else doing while you learn, in the long run, it's gonna pay off
